Hi All,

Currently our son has a pre built PC purchased through Overclockers.

Its the Spectra gaming pc - Intel Core I5 9400F with having a 1080 Ti graphics card.

I'm looking to upgrade his CPU, motherboard, RAM, an M.2 drive (around 500 GB) Power supply and an CPU AOI cooler.

He plays:

GTA 5
Fortnight
Cool of Duty warzone

Looking to spend around £1000 - £1500, he doesn't need a monitor or keyboard / mouse.

Thanks in advance

Jon

Hi Joxeon,

Thank you for taking the time to put together the above.

Regarding the CPU will this be a better bet than an Intel (i7-10700K)?

Thank you in advance.

Jon

Hi

The Ryzen is faster by up to 50%.

But if you wish to save money, then go for the maximum supported by the current motherboard, namely the Core i9-9900K.
And maybe upgrade the memory by faster one, for example DDR4-4000 or something.

Hi 4K8KW10,

No I would like to change the current board and am happy to proceed with the above recommended.

Is the above future proofed enough to allow just a standard CPU / RAM upgrade in future?

Regards

Jon

If you want a bit more futureproofing, you can get the rm850x psu for £109 at mo, reduced from £129..
Its the new 2021 version with magnetic levitation fans, the perforations look different from previous version too. Next gen gpu are meant to be more power hungry than this gen, so maybe worth the extra £16

4xsticks of single rank memory memory for the best performance. Selling the 1080ti and moving to RDNA 2 while the 1080ti is worth crazy money is probably worth considering.

A founder edition card like the 3080FE @649 is the only GPU worth upgrading too. RDNA 2 are overpriced and don't justify the performance gains.

£700 for a 6700XT will only net you 18% more performance over a GTX 1080ti.

Depends what CPU you pair the RTX 3080. And lol at being able to buy one for £649 the chances are almost zero.

Well I managed to buy one and so did my brother and a couple of friends also managed to get them. If I recall you even brought one yourself but sold it on for a big profit :p

The 5800X recommended to OP would be a very nice pairing although I ran the 3080 with a ryzen 5 3600 with minimal performance loss at 1440P for a couple of months before getting a 5800X.

Anyway, I’d be tempted to fit an AMD card to the current system. The 9400F would probably hold up well with an RX6700XT at 1440. Definitely in the games listed.
