Hi,

I can upgrade my i9-9900K to a Ryzen 5900x for about £200 - £250 and just thought if anyone would recommend this as an upgrade.

I use my PC every day and mainly for gaming more than anything and have a 3080.

Anyway the upgrade is going to be
i9-9900K + ASUS Crosshair Z390 Maximus XI Hero (Wifi)

to

ASUS ROG Strix-F + Ryzen 5900X

Could people give their opinions on whether they think the 5900X is a worthy upgrade for £250.

Tough call, you'd have a more modern platform and 4 more cores, but the 9900K has very strong gaming performance, so it's not strictly necessary.

I'd be leaning towards no.

nah, not for me. Overclocked your i9 has likely got a couple of years in it paired with your 3080. I would hang on and go Alder Lake DDR5 next year. :)

If that's not some high discount bundle, ditch that board for something better and cheaper like MSI X570 Tomahawk.
X570 chipset cooler design of Asus is straight from arse of brand overhype marketroids.
And for usual gaming use B550 boards would do fine.
That could change price sticker lower.

I really don’t rate the MSI Tomahawk. It’s maybe useful if you want 2.5Gb/s or to use phase change cooling for hardcore overclocking. MSI have focused to much on networking and VRM layout, but neglected signal and PCB quality.

Id personally spend a little more and fond a better board.
