Turns out the RTX 3080Ti 20GB is real...

Of course it is, all those rumours were true - every version of the 3080ti rumour was true, Nvidia created many variations of core count and vram quantity during design and test phase.

The reason you see AIB packaging for the 20gb is because the 20gb model came very close to being the launch version before Nvidia pulled it right at the last minute and some AIBs already started preparing packaging

IF it's real this is a very odd entry as the 3080 Ti is really a card meant for 1440P and greater, High res benefits greatly from high bandwidth, Lowering bandwidth and bus width just to say "look our card has an extra 8GB" is a very odd decision, By the time that over 12GB is required this card will be EOL by a fair few generations.

This reminds me of those 6GB 780's a few years ago, Completely pointless.

aren't there already games using 8gb+? Might be showing my ignorance here but I'm sure I read that somewhere.

And just so you guys know - this is not a retail card and nor will it be. This a test 20gb model before Nvidia canned it and swapped out the vram for 19gbps modules that the 3090 uses to make it faster. This 20gb card is using the same memory as the rtx3080 which makes it slower than the 3080ti you can actually buy today

you will never see a 20gb 3080ti in stores

Doom Eternal i had to lower quite a few settings at only 1440p because it kept saying " not enough VRAM " i had 6GB.
So 8GB i would say is minimum needed these days, 6GB kinda sucks now and soon enough you could bet your house that 8GB will suck too.

I'm bookmarking this comment :p
He's likely to be right - chip prices have gone up again and Nvidia is probably going to focus on minor iterations to their 3000 series while working on the 4000 series. They won't want to spend money on expensive 20GB modules when existing models sell extremely quickly as it is. That memory in that quantity is more than likely earmarked for 4000 series cards and has the added benefit of being an easily quantifiable improvement gen-on-gen.

think it should be "was real" but yeah Nvidia changed their minds so it never got released. If you also read the article it says Nvidia Russia denied the card exists, which is the country where the pictures are from. Wouldnt be surprised if Nvidia in Russia (didnt get the memo) and some of them shipped by accident to a retailer. Looks like they were pulled at the last minute.

Would have retailed at $3070 (£2230). Ouch

In ONE place. LTT suggests its old stock and not an actual model we will ever see;.. Pity cos not LHR

Hopefully this wont get me into competitor talk bother but if you follow through to their store you get this >

Sorry, but this sounds typical of what a 3080ti owner with only 12GB of VRAM would say, very defensive!

Far from it, I can assure you I don't have a defensive mindset when it comes to bits of plastic and silicon, They're just things.

Just thought it was quite an odd decision on Nvidia's part, Now if they started off with 20GB, 384 bit memory bus and 900GB/s bandwidth that would be fine, Just seems weird to downgrade both of those for the sake of more memory.
