Leasing worth it?

The biggest hurdle you have is that the traditional route to 'save money' by buying into a year old approved used car, with ongoing manufacturer warranty etc. and other 'new car' ease of running, just doesn't work at the moment.

Rather than making a massive saving due to initial depreciation, you're probably actually paying more for immediate availability.

I just looked up the 118i M Sport on BMW AUC and CarWow.

CarWow suggest new price is available at £26,000.

The cheapest 1 year old example on the AUC site is £23,500 with 16k on it, so only a £2,500 saving from what you could pay new. There's only 2 under £25,000.

Yep current used prices are a joke. Not sure if the increased costs are making their way to the customer with higher prices on your trade in?

They are but folk are finding a lot of the time that WBAC is outdoing dealer offers.

Unfortunately so many people refuse to go out of their way for anything even slighty like effort. I sold my last car to a local car buyer and got almost £2k more than a dealer was offering. And that was before the pandemic.

It took a few minutes to ask for a quote online and a drive to the car buyer place for them to do an inspection. Two days later I had the money in my account.

Yeh if I could find a good looking one for that I would be happy (call me a snob).
That's fundamentally the point of the upgrade, getting something a little nicer, but starting to lean towards keeping the car I have.

Here's a VW ID.3 for ~£7.35k all in for 24 months of hire (PCH), not sure how many miles you do since you say the car is barley used, but if you could do some journeys in it instead of the Nissan Cashcow then you could save some more fuel out goings. :)

Not bad at all :) tempting even though I don't like the aesthetic that much (not bad but not great).

Well in my eyes the 1-series in fugly as, but hey looks are in the eye of the beholder right? Go test drive a poverty spec 118-manual then an ID.3, and see which one you prefer, for drive quality.

  • Stock status Factory order
It'll probably be 24 months before it gets delivered too :p

Nah, plenty in stock depending on the deal OP asked for 3 years, which I just saw and you can get those for ~£10k for the 150kW Life Pro Performance 58kWh version. ;)

At which point you have to find another 3k as a deposit for the next lease at x a month. I see why people do it as it gets you into a Jew car at an aff out travel monthly payment but add up the lifetime cost and you will have wasted an epic amount of money!

If you hate the fiesta so much then sell it and just buy something you like for 4/5k it’s not like you are going to drive it loads or a petrol head who will get a kick out if owning a nice certain motor.
What is a Jew car?

Thanks for the contributions all.

I still think leasing may be a good option for when I do pull the trigger (if things stay the same), but for now I've decided to just keep the Fiesta.

Just going to funnel the cash into savings and see if I still want something in a year or so.

Good call. It might be worth keeping an EV in mind as an option when you do.
