Hi.

Was trying to find a 12 pin PCIe to 2x 8 pin PCIe extension cables so I dont need to use the horrible adapter that comes with the RTX 3070ti.

Apart from a red/black version in the "jungle" the only other place I see is Fleaby.

Are these not main stream or am I missing something?

Cheers

there are a couple places i know which do custom work but not in the UK.

Moddiy do custom sets for the 12pin too.. both premade and custom to order.

I decided to go the custom route and cable them myself

Cheers ill check them out see if the pricing and delivery time is ok.

If I went down the DIY route how easy and cheap is it to source parts?

So it took me a while to source everything, but i'll make it easier for you and list it here.. i'm sure it would be ok since OCUK don't sell any of these parts (feel free to let me know if otherwise and i'll redact)

Connectors and the specific terminals were sourced from Mainframe customs... as they are the only supplier i know which sell the original terminals.. i believe they are called Astron and are not the same as the Microfit 3.0 terminals most suppliers/companies seem to sell. Apparently the Microfit will work, but the terminals are slightly bigger and a squeeze to fit in the connector.

The wire was the hardest component to source as your typical 18awg wire won't cut it as the sleeve is too thick. The only one which seemed to be the 'go-to' was high voltage PTFE wire at 1mm/ OD1.65mm
. Normal 18awg has a OD of roughly 2mm

The connector, if you were to sleeve it etc, you need to cut out the insides of the connectors to make space for the sleeving.. especially if you go heatshrink-less. Luckily i bought 1 too many connectors from AliExpress and rather than getting a maximum of 2, i failed to realise i bough 2 packs of 20 connectors lol. So plenty of practise for me to snip out the insides (only the vertical slits, horizontal slit can be left alone)

Sleeving - MDPCX sleeving may not fit as smallest size i can find is 4mm. It may work but might look a bit funny/baggy. Teleios sleeving seems to be better as they come in 2mm which is ideal.

Appreciate the info, making my own cables is definitely something I am going to look into as I am know for "changing aesthetics" lol.

For now I noticed "Jungle" had them made by EZDIY but only the red/black in stock, I got a reply from the company saying more colours in stock 3-4 weeks but try "Jungle Germany" so I got a white one from there for £14.

What I did notice is it goes Mini 12pin to Dual 8 pin, but on the two 8 pin headers there is only 6 wires into each, so I assume putting the full 8 pin from PSU won't make any difference or do I need to use 6 pin with a gap? Can show a picture if needed.

I had a couple of custom ones made up for my recent build (rather than an extension) so it goes straight from the psu to the card.

It was much nicer than having even a short extension.

I can dm you the place I got this made up from (although not a direct competitor to OcUK - not sure if mentioning them will be an issue.)

They were reasonably priced and I gave them a simple image of the colour scheme I wanted via Cable Mod's cable building tool and they made them up for me.
