I've recently been listing all my old CD's on Discogs and surprised at what some of them seem to be worth. Will make up for all the worthless ones anyway!

Anyway, because i've sold through Discogs to an EU buyer, it seems to be automatically adding VAT (in this case Polish VAT) to my sale. The buyer has paid this and it's actually come through to my paypal account as funds.

What i'm not sure about however is what i'm supposed to do with this? I'm just a regular chump and certainly not registered for VAT.
Do i bank it as a nice little bonus?
Do i have to declare something?
Do i send it back to the buyer and say there's been a mistake?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

EU laws recently changed that VAT is applied on all shipments. Usually collected by the marketplace.

You need to quote the ISO number on your shipping docs so it can get through customs and customer isnt charged again.

Yeah, i've done all that. It's more around what do i do with the VAT that i've collected?

We're only talking small amounts here, but so far i've had the above sale and then some smaller sales to Spain and Germany and not sure how many more there might be.

Someone I know was recently charged by the importing country (Finland) to pay the VAT before the package was released. It's possible the same will happen to you.

Sorry for the late reply.

Interesting, my experience is the marketplace holds the funds and sells them. If you have the VAT - then that sounds a little odd :D

Well the way it should work in this scenario under IOSS that if you the seller don’t have an IOSS VAT number … then it goes under the marketplace’s number. You also need to include this on your declaration when shipping the item that VAT has been paid … as the duty free limits have now been removed due to IOSS.

But you actually receiving the VAT amount is wrong, as the marketplace are the ones who will need to pay this VAT amount to whatever country they’re registered for IOSS in.
