Just got a 3060 ti FE recently after trying out a 6800XT in Dec, 6900XT in January and 3090 in Feb. All previous GPUS were sold.

I just did not find much noticeable difference playing COD Cold war, Forza, HZero Dawn, Cyberpunk between any of those cards and the 3060 ti. Only thing obviously on the 3060ti, is frame rates drop to 130 FPS on Ultra at COD, 120 FPS MAX ULTRA at Forza, 75FPS Ultra at HZero Dawn and 75 FPS Ultra at Cyberpunk.

Anyone think the 3060ti would last 3-4 years at high FPS 1440p gaming?

I'll hazard a guess you where CPU bottlenecked with the 6800XT, 6900XT and 3090, hence the you not noticing the difference.

Also, I thought you said high FPS. 130 is low by todays standards. :D:p;)

I used a 3060 ti at 1440p for a while and it’s good enough now but probably not in a year or 2 without dropping some settings.

be fine. thats what those settings are for in games. you turn one down from ultra to high. you perhaps see a difference...within 20mins you forget any difference you may have seen and then carry on for another year or two.

and regarding the high fps gaming...well really question yourself whether you see and care for a difference between 100 - 120 - 165 - 200+

Maybe not high fps gaming for 3/4 years atleast without dropping some settings on AAA stuff but then would you be able to keep the same GPU for 3 years considering you already brought 4 in the space of 9 months?

Difference between 100 and 144 is night and day in my opinion.

If you play single player it doesn't matter, 60, even less is ok, but if you play anything where you need to be fast the more you can get the better.

That’s true! Not sure if I would get the upgrade itch in 12 months. Hoping I won’t as we would still have the same situation with crazy availability next year.

You’re right I don’t notice a difference between 130 fps vs 180fps. I had a 3090 FE do 180-200 FPS in COD and honestly can’t tell the difference between the 60ti at 130 FPS

Probably. That’s the next upgrade a 5600x would net me 20 FPS uplift for £260 upgrade cost minus 3600 trade in.

My 3060ti coupled with the 5600x is a great combination, I play at 1440p and all my AAA games virtually max out my 95hz monitor at very high settings, I don't do online gaming anymore, so I'm happy with the smooth gameplay I'm getting

I have a 180hz monitor and the 60ti max reaches 150 FPS in some levels in Cold War- this is good enough for me.

It'll be fine. In almost every game there are settings you can turn down that massively impact performance and provide no notable visual benefit. I've been playing Mass Effect: Andromeda recently and having the 'HBAO+ Full' setting enabled and the 'Effects' setting on Ultra absolutely murders your performance. Turn them to down just 'HBAO+' and High and your framerate soars. I've been unable to notice any visual difference whatsoever in exchange for that performance hit. Maybe if I was playing at 8K I'd see some slightly smoother shadows or something. Either way, it's a nonsense.

Digital Foundry and/or Hardware Unboxed usually provide some optimised settings for the big, demanding games, which offer a large performance boost with little visual difference.

For games like Cyberpunk the difference between a 3090 & a 3060 Ti is absolutely monumental, but it does require you to turn on RTX and to have a top-end CPU. Purely for raster at 1440p aiming for higher fps & with an R5 3600, yeah I guess it's less relevant. Keep in mind Nvidia GPUs in particular are stupidly CPU-hungry.

I'm kinda the same now, if I can keep the fps in the 90/100 range and above I'm as happy as a pig in cack :D

And as Freddie says above, DLSS/FSR are going to extend the life of any supporting card out there :) (and with Nvidia you get the best of all worlds, DLSS/FSR/Decent RT)

Ray Tracing will be the killer for lower end cards going forward over the next few years with more gaming titles released with it as an option.

Generally speaking, it will be fine. There will always be a few games that comes out (think Cyberpunk) that will raise the bar (or inefficiency level lol), and kill the frame rate. Assuming we carry on the trajectory of ray tracing, then you might have to sacrifice somewhat in 2+ years time.

Being frank... modern game engines are very good at making lower settings look pretty good.

since dlss kinda sorta does a decent job at 1440p, you're in for a ride. if u're okay with dlss quality at 1440p, you can probably push 4-5 years at 1440p, leaving the ray tracing away at some point of course

If you would have said three years from release.. yeah maybe. It released in December so its been possible for nine months to have had one now, so if you were to say three years from right now I would have to be realistic and that could be the next gen after lovelace time or a refresh.
