Hi,

With the AM4 slot running with a motherboard such as a 570 chipset. What generation Ryzen cpu that can be used with it. I appreciate you ideally want to be using the latest generation 5000 series but how old could you go?

X570 will support 2000 series onwards although some will unofficially support 1000. 5000 support may require bios flashing.

B550 support 3000 onwards although not the 3000G APU,s and again may need bios flashing for 5000 series.

B450/X470 boards support 1000 onwards although may need bios flashing to support 3000/5000

I’m interested about the unofficial support. I guess that’s a take your chance unless a manufacturer tells you otherwise for a specific board.

Why would you want the latest motherboard and an unsupported cpu ?

An unsupported cpu is something I hope no one would want. I’m interested in the AM4 socket and how compatible it is. I found the compatibility table and @Joxeon s post. I assume the full compatibility sits in the MB chipset as to whether all the cpu instruction set and interfaces are fully implemented.

I haven't checked, but it's probably not listed on the CPU support pages of any motherboard, because AMD don't permit these combinations. You can google the board model and the CPU and it should come up if somebody has used it. Compatibility may also depend on BIOS version, so be careful.

I think I’ll stick to the officially supported versions. I’m not sure I have the patience or time to go off piste.
