This guy was fed up with people traipsing across his lawn so came up with a clever sprinkler and alarm system to dissuade them.

Pretty good idea if you ask me. People seem to have very little respect for private land so all power to the guy for protecting it. The vids are pretty funny too. Some of them get an absolute drenching.

This has gotten a fair amount of press actually with some articles saying it's cruel and unnecessary!

No issues here (being someone that cares about their property and lawn) but what do you reckon?

I reckon TikTok crap should go in the Videos thread.

But as Rob said, fence/wall would be a good idea.
Forget that it's tiktok. It's made the press. I didn't even link the video directly.

Point is about people protecting their property and what's ok / not.

But hey if you want to kill a discussion because of the incidental link to tiktok then keep bleating.

Assuming it is the US from the thumbnails might be local city code or whatever it is which prevents it :s some have some pretty crazy things you can or can't do or you become liable for if you do or don't do, etc.

Indeed. A friend of mine who lives just outside of Vegas went away on deployment and upon returning home found that the neighbourhood association were trying to fine him due to his lawn being slightly overgrown and unkempt.

Interesting. I suppose we have similar in some places too, restrictive covenants in Garden Cities for example.

Fair enough, it is quite entertaining. He should probs just plant a hedge or put up a little white picket fence or something though.

I saw this pop up in a home automation subreddit the other week. A nice demonstration of what you can automate :D

You can by systems like this off the shelf too btw.. They’ve been sold, for example, to keep cats out of your garden.

Some of them can be quite crazy - way beyond anything I've heard of here. One of my friends out there wanted to make some slight alterations to his front yard and they were like sure but you'll also have to contribute $30K to [general] improvements to the street. Some of the stories in the news are even crazier than that.

Bit of water never hurt anyone.

It seems to be hurting his lawn though. You can see the over-watered patch compared to the rest of it.

I guess there's nothing he can do though, as per the above the cost of putting up a fence or hedge is likely to be stupidly expensive, which means he's left with it open. And possibly being on a corner plot means people will inherently take a shortcut across it.

Yes as mentioned you can buy them off the shelf ( Moon man now drifts off topic) I have the ultrsonic ones with a pick an animal to scare setting also the mole repeller that did actually work (Gimli was a pita after a while)
But the off the shelf sparayer realy needs a remote off so the owner can stay dry

/That/ made the press?

Slowest news week in history it would sem.

The news isn't about politics or current affairs any longer. It's all just what's popular in the media and on television.

The news sites want clicks. That's all they care about. What's happening on I'm a Celebrity or Gogglebox is made more important than other events.

For instance, according to Wikipedia, here are three current events which I just found out about:
Not one of those is on the front page of the BBC News website.
