...or so it would seem from her 6 year old Clio's MOT failure.

She said she wondered why it seemed to scrape every time going over a speed bump in the estate. God knows how she was driving it like that. Tyres were brand new last MOT and only done 3000 miles on them. Other stuff not on there that is broken too, if it had been an insurance job i reckon they would have written it off. Guess i need to pay more attention to her car.....

Anyone else out there with a decent sized MOT bill......

If it's only done 3000 miles wouldn't the arm ball joints have been at least an advisory on the old MOT?
Has she yeeted a kerb at a quite reasonable speed? lol

I happened to notice that one of the tyres on my GF's car was almost a racing slick and got it changed the next day. It wasn't like it was just under legality it must have gone past that point a decent time ago.

That's exactly what I was thinking, 3,000 miles isn't enough for a part to go from being fine to it's ******.

Unless your good lady has done a Bo Duke and jumped a creek some of that must have been an advisory last year...

Females rarely have any mechanical sympathy. Both the female drivers in my household are perplexed when I get in the car and instantly hear/feel problems. It's the same with the hoover every time I go to use it; all the filters need cleaning.

She has an annoying habit when parking. Rather than parallel parking by reversing in like most people, she just drives in and ramps the front end up the kerb and then lets it drop off. Looks like she paying the price for that now, waiting for the bill but expecting around £2.5k to sort it out inc. service and MOT.

Her wheels would make the baby jesus cry they are so destroyed, i don't even know how you can kerb the inner wheel not just the rim....

Not quite the same, but we did have a bit of a shock a couple of months ago with my girlfriend's car. We bought her new Sorento in August last year, and at the time of buying, we asked for the front tyres to be replaced before pickup, as they'd been wearing close to the limit. This was from a Kia dealer, but not local. This year, it went for MOT at our local Kia dealer, and they said the front tyres were pretty much done and needed replacing. We were a bit peeved, thinking the selling dealer had charged us for 2 new tyres and not bothered fitting them - the car had only done about 10K miles or so, I wouldn't have expected tyres to be done by then. Sure enough though, when we picked the car up, I checked the manufacturer date, and it was July 2020, so they had been fitted just before we bought it.

I began to wonder if she'd been going out at night and doing front wheel burnouts or something, but it turns out there's been a few reports of Sorentos/Sportages with 19" wheels going through front tyres like a dose of salts. Annoying, as I remember thinking when we bought it, that I'd actually prefer smaller wheels, primarily for comfort. As it happens, the car rides lovely anyway, but I hadn't figured on it needing new tyres so regularly :(

They probably just put bottom tier budget tyres on tbh,

Not really, they were Bridgestone Turanza I think. Maybe not UHP, but not exactly Linglong Landsail Ditchfinder Slipsliders. If anything, I would have a thought a rock hard budget tyre might have lasted longer! We put a new set of Pirellis on, will see how they last.

This. some brands are only good for 10,000 miles, some Ive done 60,000 miles in.

I put some Avons on my Touareg since it was due to go back on 15th Nov and with only 6 months left didn't want to put michelins on it. Car isnt going back for another 6 months now due to delays in the new one and I had a look at my tyres the other day and no was will they last another 6 months. Ive only done almost 9k on them and only a mm left to the indicators. WIll be having to put another set on by xmas at the latest I reckon.

avons are very soft and wear quickly although they are great "budget" tyres for wet grip.

Those bridgestones are decent and most users seem to get around 25,000 miles from them.

Yeah, Turanza's are OK. OEM fit on my old Skoda. I got 14k out of the fronts on a diesel hot hatch...

Not a Sorento, but decent enough for the car it was on.
