So I cleaned my 1080ti reassembled and now the fans are on 100%

As titled. I'm afraid this is what is happening.

The fans were dusty so I took apart the card, removed thermal paste, cleaned out the heatsinks. Reattached.

All seemed well. I put on Hitman 3 and about 5 mins in the fans went from completely reasonable to completely insane.

No matter what happens now the fans are 100% and it's that way from when I boot up the computer.

Some points of interest

I can't seem to get into my bios to look at anything or chance any settings
IT's a gigabyte 1080ti and the software for fan/voltage seems to be completely unresponsive and shows the fans at 0rpm

So I'm stuck right now. I need to figure it out because it's unusable as it is. It's like a jet engine xD

Not looking good then at all
Yeah I don’t know what I’ve done, though of course I must have done something when I put it back together. I put all the cables into the sockets they need to be in. Screwed it all up and all seemed well. Strange.

If your fan speed is reading zero when the fans are moving it means the fan is the issue and not sending the rpm, make sure the cables on the fans are not damaged and the fan speed wire is right and when plugged back in the card the pins are all there on the card and not bent or going in the wrong holes on the fan end.

Use GPU-Z to read the rpm for the fans and see what it says.

Maybe missed a pad or something? Not sure if GPUs poll one or many sensors, could be a VRM or memory IC that's getting hot

Fans showing 0RPM may be in indication that you have damaged the RPM signal wire from the fans. The card is then just pumping out full voltage to the fans as a failsafe.

thanks for this. I’m going to try to reseat the connectors in the hopes I’ve mucked up.

Then I’ll use gpu-z

I'd try different fans, assuming they share the same connector as your case fans/one you have lying around. Probably not connected right/damaged cable. Though if it's both cables, it could be the connector on the gpu/connection to the board from that.

Also if there is more than one fan cable make sure the right one is in the right place on the card, because maybe only one of the fans has all the cables for the rpm and the rest just follow what that fan is doing, just make sure the right fans go to the right connector on the card, one with most wires coming out of it is the one that sends the speed signal to the card so make sure thats the one plugged into the right connector that picks up the speed.

So I'm looking at gpu-z and it shows the fan speed at 0% but the fan RPM as 4000+ rpm

photo attached. Going to take it out now and work on the fans/cables as suggested.

Thanks to EVERYONE who has taken the time to respond

Ah ok.

So I've managed to get it to boot up with ONE fan spinning out of the three.

I'm going to try and do it with another one and see if that helps. As it stands one or two are toast but they should be easy to replace after all and the harness that links the three seems fine.

BUT now I go into GPU-z and it shows as 0RPM (it's definitely spinning) AND 0%

I'll see how I get on with putting another fan on with it next.

Right so I ran the Hitman benchmark.

Fan kicked in to what sounds like 100% - gpu temp reached 70 degrees
Fan speed on gpuz gradually calmed down BUT the fan was still running at full tilt.

It's looking pretty bad I guess?
