End of the world (ish) scenario 99% mortality

I'd grab a big truck, load it up with guns, water and food that doesn't go off and find a suitable spot to settle down. Also some books on agriculture so I could hopefully feed myself once I run out of canned soup. Oh and bog roll, of course.

Oh and bog roll, of course.

However it's a huge waste of resources when a single hand towel can be used and then washed repeatedly, using waste water which can then be used to simultaneously water & fertilize your veg patch :D

I live about 15 mins walk from A tank regiment and an Anti Tank Helicopter battalion...

So i will be playing BF2042 IRL after i learn to drive, fly, rearm the damn things.

I assume other like minded players in my vicinity will do the same so it could be a bit of a noobfest.

Earth Abides, a 50s scifi story, shows what would happen. Things would drift, and restarting would be very difficult.

At 99% mortality, nearly all the useful people would be gone. Those who were left would be widely scattered with no means of communicating or meeting, beyond blind chance. The chance of you finding the person you need to operate the crucial equipment at short notice would be close to nil.

And that's without taking into account a proportion of the survivors would simply exist on preserved foodstuffs, without preparing for a restart.

On the plus side, the 1% would have adequate land to practice subsistence farming, until the fuel and fertiliser ran out.

If this 1% was spread equally in relation to population, Derby (where I live) would have 2587 people.
1276 Men
1291 Women
Of which are,
536 newborn-15 years olds
1608 16-64 year olds
423 65+ year olds

In Derwent ward where I live, I would have to deal with 139 people. 68 men and 71 women (all ages)

Yeah I think I would be ok for a while.

For me I would go to the nearest military base and get weapons and a 4x4 then head north and then go to some Island with a Ferry system and live out my days with my family.

After a few years once things have settled down I might take a tour of UK. Go into Buckingham Palace. Have sex on the London Eye. That sort of thing.

Meh, sex on the London Eye is no big deal, I’ve done that but I can’t prove it, I was on my own

Might it not have been a good idea to snag a couple of fit women if there were any around?
Y’all could have fun, AND start repopulating the planet ;)

First thing I would do that many probably won't is raid a Pharmacy or two. Cannot have enough antibiotics or things like that. I have a Lidl, Aldi, Tescos petrol station and Co-op literally round the corner. Plenty of supplies for the 139 people in Derwent Ward. There is a Travelodge next to Toby Carvery in the same vicinity as the supermarkets. Plenty of room to house the Derwent survivors. That could be the home base. Chad park and allotments behind that, the Brook running through the park, that usually runs clean and clear for fresh water. Might need a bit of attention before using it though.

User name fits.

Start my own cult indoctrinating the young with lots of orgies, if you get tired of this sort of thing that's ok but don't get upset if your partner(s) still want to pop along for one now and then.

Reminds me of a joke Dara O'Briain does about modern man feeling all smug about our marvelous advancements vs the uneducated savages from just a few hundred years ago.
Smug that is up to the point where you have to explain exactly how any of our super advanced gizmos actually work. "Erm, you kind plug this thing into a wall and hit a button" is the answer to everything.

With 1% left, it'll anyone with tradecraft and any kind of farming/woodcraft about them that'll be the most important people left in what's left of society. Inverse of today really as those in banking/legal/IT roles etc will be fairly worthless and will have to be relegated to doing the manual labor those with knowledge tell them to do.

In my village there would be 4 of us left. Hopefully none of the 3 I hate.

And butchers/fishmongers. I'm sorted then.

If I was alone I'd trawl towns trying to find a female companion who needs their pasty smashing. A bit like my weekends really..

In reality, I'd probably try to stock up as much as I can but that forces me to stay close to where I live.. and do the above which would no doubt end in me getting killed eventually.

Lots of billionaires buying islands, probably hedging for this scenario;)

Truth is we live in a world highly dependent on each other and the infrastructure. We'd be back to square one very quickly. Just ask yourself how easy it would be to create the infrastructure, from scratch to make a smartphone... The other side is if you like living close to nature it would be a nice quiet simple life.
