Hello,

My son has my old out dated PC, and i'm thinking of slowly upgrading it for him

What would be best to upgrade first ?

His system is the following:

Intel Core i5-6400 2.70GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor
Gigabyte H110M-S2H Intel H110 (Socket 1151) DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard
Powercolor Radeon R9 380 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
16GB DDR Ram - Can't remember exactly what make.
Crucial BX200 240GB SSD SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive - OS Only

Looking to do it as cheap as possible.

Thanks

I just brought him a 24" 24GN600-B 1920X1080 IPS 144Hz Monitor

He plays a lot to be honest Fortnite, Tried to play CoD Warzone but it was dropping frames a lot.

Some racing games, it is mainly gaming constantly

CPU wise H110 can go up to i7-7700K, which is still not a bad CPU.
So motherboard upgrade may be avoided for now. 16GB RAM should be enough as well.

But GPU will be holding it back in any modern game.
But nothing in GPU world is cheap nowadays.

Gpu upgrade needed you can pick up a gtx 1070 for £200 in the members market that would double performance of the 380.

Getting the games on a ssd wont improve fps but will drastically increase loading times.

I’d probably say that it’s the CPU and GPU but it’s odd that Fortnight is dropping frames.

the game will run on a potato. You could get a 7700K and an AMD 580 8gig as a nice budget upgrade.

just make sure that you actually have 16gigs of ram because that SSD is a DRAM less drive and will slow the whole system down if the system is caching instructions to the SSD due to a lack of ram.

At this point, XBox series S + gamepass on whatever Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals we get.
Use the PC for older titles, steam back catalogue.

If PC only

7700 as good as 7700K and less expensive, no over clocking on H110 anyway.
Personally, I think CPU upgrade is dead money on that platform.

I would look for a 10400F and motherboad ~£250 and then sell the existing parts as a bundle.
Then same with GPU, buy what comes up used / new and sell on the old one.

Sorry only Warzone drops frames.

Fortnite runs fine

Thread revival.

He did have a slight upgrade not long ago.

The system is now
H310 Chipset Motherboard
I5 - 9400F @ 2.9Ghz
16GB Ram
GTX 1660TI

I have seen a few RTX 2060 Supers going cheap online.

Was thinking that would be a decent upgrade won't it ?

Not worth it its only about 17% performance boost , what's your budget ?

6600xt is about 40% faster than the 1660 ti .

Not really sure what the budget is really.

I'm thinking about £200 roughly. Ideally want him to be able to play CoD
Should be able to play at 1080p with what he has , £200 ain't gonna cut it unless you go used.

An rx 6700 is £330 and a big upgrade while selling his 1660ti would ease the blow, below is some benchmarks for mw2 .
