Possibly looking at AMD for the first time ever.

Gaming but at 2560x1440 rather than 4k.

Also needs to cope with Visual Studio and Unity with a little blender thrown in, but generally with a gaming PC that hasn't been an issue!

Current PC is an i5-8600 with an RTX 2060 (that is going to my wife)

Thanks in advance!

While I can't see Alder Lake bringing anything significant for gaming, except issues from overhyped big.little kludge, positive for buyer price changes should happen if you can wait for few weeks.
Though it's always possible that recent tradition of no real availability at launch continues.

As for GPUs prices are going to be problem.

Agreed. This is a M-atx base system with no gpu and im already at £700!! Hopefully the ryzen 5* series will have a good price drop when intel releases tthere next gen.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £701.55 (includes shipping: £11.70)

After a look around OC seem to be VERY expensive for the 5600x as it can be had elsewhere for £50+ less

Is the 1000 in the title your budget? 1100-1300 is more realistic providing you can get a founders edition 3060ti/3070

It is indeed the budget, hadn't realised prices where so shocking tbh!

Can always stretch to a bit more if needed though.

This is about as close to £1k as you get building with decent quality components. Although for your workload and if you can stretch I would look at 5900X and beefier HSF.

To get anything significantly better than what you have you would be looking at spending a lot more.

Thank you kindly, something to consider.
Keep your GPU for now and upgrade everything else. Pricing is high so your budget is quite low.

Some good suggestions above for CPU, mobo and RAM.

If you're feeling a little flush with cash and want an amazing overclocking motherboard with great daily-driver features, I'd suggest getting the B550 Vision D-P.
▷ Gigabyte B550 VISION D-P (AMD AM4) B550 ATX M… | OcUK (overclockers.co.uk)

It is expensive but it's a fantastic motherboard. Combine that with a 5600X and the BALLISTIX 16GB (2X8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C16 3600MHZ RAM for a great build.

It turned into a £1700 build in the end...but at least it is ordered!

But my, graphics cards are pricy at the moment! Thanks for the assist.

Congrats! Full specs?
Nice to have a good build that’ll last a while

  • PowerColor Radeon RX 6600 HellHound 8GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5800X Eight Core 4.7GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
  • Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus WiFi (AMD AM4) DDR4 X570 Chipset ATX Motherboard
  • Kingston HyperX Fury RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-28800C17 3600MHz Dual Channel Kit x 2
  • ASUS ROG STRIX 750W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply
  • Crucial P2 1TB M.2 2280 PCI-e 3.0 NVMe Solid State Drive
  • Arctic Liquid Freezer II High Performance CPU Water Cooler - 280mm
  • Lian-Li PC-O11 Dynamic Midi-Tower - Black Window
  • Corsair AF High Airflow Low Noise Blue LED Cooling Fan - 120mm - Triple Pack
Also had to get a cheap(ish) keyboard and mouse as my old PC is going to my wife!
So slightly better processor a bit more ram and a full ATX board with a case to fit it in.

Still wincing at the graphics card though.

No doubt I will have forgotten something. Such as the OS...

Yeah that would have been a £200 GPU at best in normal times.

Nah, probably more like £269.

Yeah, graphics card prices are insane. We desperately need Intel to enter the market and resume some normality.

Very nice build.

Excellent CPU - the 5800X wasn’t a great buy when it launched but it’s become a good option for those who want a fantastic daily driven work horse.

I may have gone for a 5600X personally but Each to their own.
