If you could have a private plate that was
lastname firstname, would you want it or would you find it too obvious? The format is:

AB12 CDE

It's not for me, but would be a gift so am not sure if most people would prefer something more subtle with just initials.

For the record, I'm not really into private plates myself, but each to their own.

I don’t understand the question. Are you meaning first name initial, second name initial, random number, random number, random three letters?

If so, then no, to me that’s not personal enough, and far too “generic” new format number.

Our three plates are Letter (on one plate it means something), 2-digit significant number, First initial, middle initial, surname initial. And as our middle initials are the same, the three plates are only 1 or 2 characters different from each other.

E.g X33 ABC, W33 ABC and Y33 CBC

Not quite, it's a Chinese name which is why it was short. For example, imagine your name was Simon Ng, the plate would be:

NG51 MON

It's a nice touch so probably yes.

But it depends on whether it might make a relatively new car look like a relatively old one. The number format is current. So if put on something like a newish Mini, it could make it look like and older Mini, for example. Also be aware they will need to make sure they agree with their insurance company that in the event of a write off they own the plate and not the insurance company.

I think it's been vetoed, she thinks it's a bit too obvious so just wants something with lots of 8s and her initials. At least I didn't just go and buy it lol!
