Are Upscalers W/RT A Benefit In Competitive 1st Person Shooter Games?

I've seen RT and Upscalers offered in competitive FPS games however, I've never had anyone admit to using them in those games. The go to seems to be just using 1080 with a top end video card with all settings to low. So I have to ask the question if there is any real benefit to them other then in story mode based/single player games?

I also noticed the negative reception of Battlefield 2042's RTX tech demo. Besides the FPS and stutter issue of the presentation are we reaching a level of RT fatigue? Lack of Interest or something else?

If you want to be a l33t pro then RT graphical effects, nope, definitely not (in which case, you'll be doing the all low4pro settings and possibly a lesser resolution if you really want all the advantages you can get)

If you want to just enjoy visuals galore, then yes, you'll want to use RT (I know a good amount of BF players who whack everything to max even if they don't get near their 144HZ/FPS)

DLSS/FSR, if you're not able to hit a certain fps because of lack of gpu grunt then yes you'll be wanting to use this since higher fps = less input lag, which is king in PVP MP. Also, the last 2 BF games and this one have TAA forced (either a low [aliasing and blur issues] or high [no aliasing issues but even blurrier] setting) so DLSS in comparison to "native + TAA" will provide a cleaner image on the whole (especially since the motion artefacts have all been solved with the newer versions now and TAA has always been far worse for motion clarity in my experience)

As for RT in this, most likely reason it hasn't been added to the same extent as other RT games is because it's primarily a semi-competitive MP PVP so they can't be whacking up RT too much on a 64/128 player servers, that and perhaps down to the engine (apparently one of the worst engines to work with) as BF 5 was god awful with it's RT reflections.

I didnt notice any real FPS issues or stuttering in the beta but I thought it was a really bland map and didn't feel like it offered anything over previous BF games. Will see when the full game comes out but for the moment I am not hopeful. As for expensive rendering techniques such as RT? Probably a massive nope in MP games such as this.

After playing the beta, the best settings for this game is to set everything to ultra low.

Not only does Ultra low drastically improve latency stability but it also makes enemies much easier to spot.

It has been the same for years, I remember Q3 and every setting was turned to the minimum, it was like playing the Lego version, brilliant though for a slight edge in competitive play.

If I'm playing online and taking it seriously then 1440p native with "lowpro" config setup for the best mix of frame rate and clearest view. Won't touch upscaling for that kind of gameplay.

battlefield is not a competitive FPS and never has been lots of people will just play it for the visuals

but you are right most people could not give a rats arse about RTX and would prefer more frames and smoother game

warzone has the option to turn ray tracing on but not certain where its implemented it doesnt seem to hardly touch frames or change how anything looks

the noise from dice about being proud of that map and how it was amazing and we got something bland dull and tedious

I'll echo what a few others have mentioned, don't play competitive anymore UT and Q3 Arena was the higher point for myself I still played CS and just about anything online MP but first thing was to lower every setting for the highest fps possible I wouldn't bother with upscaling RTX stuff etc.

For me I have never been that user to lower settings unless I am required to do so.

I play FPS games to win, I would say competitively though like clans and leagues etc

But I do play to win and I wouldn't remove the graphics to get an advantage.

I played counter strike for years maxed settings and did well enough.

For BF V turning down settings was a necessity because otherwise visibility was so much worse. I imagine it's the same for BF2042. Admiring the view is nice, but not when you die all the time.
