AMD Signs Up Meta in Another Big Win on Server Customers

The market seems to like it.

Yep why not. It looks like Nvidia will be supplying tech to Meta too and their shares went up 20% on that news. Meta is the new hot thing, anyone linked to it can expect good gains in the share market.

Nvidia shares may rocket again tomorrow after leather jacket man gives his GTC speech where he may announce details of the deal with Meta

is there no end to this madness won't someone think of the climate
Can we look forward to seeing you moving to low power, more efficient computer hardware Grim?

That 3090 you are using is about as efficient as a 50 year old gas boiler. :p

:p Not exactly much in it.. That's with ray tracing off, we know how it would look with ray tracing on .

60 Watts is a lot. You can OC a 6900 XT and still draw less power than a stock 3090.

Greta would be having nightmares.

But but but you get more frames per watt with RT on and lets not forget DLSS how that would make the graphs look..:p;)

They are all silly power use cards lets be honest.. sadly what we have been given this gen and next gen doesn't look any better with total power use, but lets hope the per watt use gets us a lot more frames for our electric bill and the heat thrown in the room.

I have a bad feeling about next gen and their power requirements and hoping it's not going to be as bad as some are saying or we will all end up with a kilowatt heater in the room becoming the standard highend gaming pc.

I never argued otherwise, Grim mentioned power usage and climate. Just wanted to see if he will be worrying about the climate.

If we're talking performance per watt, then most new high TDP cards can be seen as very efficient!\
Even AMD's new 560w MI200 is very efficient, it offers to 2x performance increase for just 1x power draw increase

But that hides the truth, that it still consumes a lot of power.

Performance per watt as a measure for being green or focusing on climate is a falsehood that hides the truth - it's like China (the worlds worst polluter) saying they are very efficient because their emissions per capita is low and then using that as an excuse to continue to increase their emissions - you can do the same with a GPU, claim your performance per watt is high as an excuse to continue to increase the power draw.

@Grim5

Kidding apart power use really needs to come down, as we have seen with the 12900k we really can't be going down this road much longer, soon we will be saying it's ok to have 500w cpus, for a slight bump in performance. Also many of us here are into highend gear and if the power use is not worrying them, the heat output is as we will soon need chillers to keep even watercooled systems running at safe temperatures and then an air conditioner in the room so the user doesn't cook.

Also on an environmental issue it needs to stop, you think Greta is bad, you have not had that conversation with me regarding the silly things we are doing to the environment.. Serious nature lover here ;).

Guess what is happening in her natural environment..:(

She's a bit too team green above maybe, let's balance it out for team red, here is another one of my pets same sadly is happening in her part of the world she comes from :-

Exactly.. :D

That's my issue with total power use, it is getting silly now.

Okay, but you’re using two 3090s. I thought Grim was bad.

Yes for work as I need the GPU power and VRAM. I would have gone with an A6000 for the 48GB VRAM but the cost was silly and don't need Quadro drivers for my work, so a total waste of money and still would only have half the GPU power.

Thanks Bill :) yes she's a stunner but a grumpy lady too..

Feeding her can be fun, this is a feeding video from someone else that keeps her type too, She's an Aru Green Tree Python. The red one is a Brazilian Rainbow Boa.

Nice Tree Python. I have always wanted to get a snake. All my reptiles have been lizards

Here is a picture of my current bioactive leopard gecko viv
