Hey All,

What are peoples views and experience with Tarox brake kits.

I know Alcon, AP and Brembo are the usual go to for big brake kits but just looking for a better caliper and disc combo without going crazy, Tarox seems pretty competitive providing smaller kit over the three I mentioned which offer kits at twice the price but include a much bigger setup.

Discuss :D

I cannot comment from experience but as a name they have been around a long time, from comments I've heard in passing I think they are a pretty solid brand, good quality etc, they are just not big on marketing like some other brands and don't do much sponsorship so hence their low-key under the radar as to speak.

The only thing putting me off Tarox is you are then tied to their pads and discs, they dont use a standard pattern, but the 6 pot kit is very competitive on price.

Would be nice to find a kit based around a popular pad pattern so can use thinks like Performance Friction, Ferodo etc.

Also have confirmation from Tarox this morning that the two kits being offered use the same pads and therefore the same pad area.

The larger kit caliper is larger with more pots, although anything above 6 seems silly and the disc is larger.

Waiting for responses from Alcon and Wilwood.

Can't help on Tarox. Had Wilwoods on an Impreza ages ago. Car stopped OK so no complaints :)

Have ordered Alcons for my Evo9. Just waiting on disks to be available before the kit is shipped to me.

If money allows AP and Alcon are the benchmark, pretty much the best out there.

Having had Alcon on a few cars the disc are most expensive but they also last the longest.

I have a full set of F2000 Tarox discs and Tarox Strada pads on the ST in OEM size. They've been great for a fast road setup. Very premium product.

This combined with the braided lines improved braking performance immensely.

Emailed StopTech and also EBC but never been a fan of EBC stuff.

Tarox do F2000 discs and road pads for the stock calipers but they will prob fade just a quickly as the current ones.

The KSport brake kits are very reasonably priced.

A bit more research done and it seems the AMG A45 brakes are a direct swap for the GLA and on the 996 you can fit the larger GT2 brakes.

Ended up going with an AMG setup, its basically all Brembo kit and worked out cheaper than all the aftermarket kits, just waiting on some braided hoses and will fit it all :)

I've had D2 6 pots on my RX8 with EBC Yellow Stuff, they were incredible disc and pad combo tbh. Way more than an RX8 ever needed...

Had the AMG brakes on for about week now and bedding them in, happy so far :)

Still getting all the bits together for 996 GT3 upgrade but almost there with all parts needed.

I had Tarox brakes all round on my Series 2 Escort RS Turbo and the difference over the standard factory brakes they replaced was night and day for the better, they lasted well but did get the wheels dusty very quickly.

Unfortunately though this was ~25 years ago so I’d imagine irrelevant today alas, if they are still as good as they we’re back then, I have no idea. :p

I also had Series 2 RS Turbo, power engineering upgrades on it, was a rapid motor for a early 20 something year old, loads of torque steer, good times :D

They fetch good money for a tidy one, I px mine once I got it running again after a cambelt failure :(

Oh yes, I remember Power Engineering, had both an S1 and later the Series 2 turbos, both got stolen & recovered more than once each alas each to eventually be never seen again, Shame I didn’t still have them as they’d be collectively worth more than my house today….

Ahh, hindsight!

Yeah the S1 was always more sort after than the S2, still are I think, it did have a better look about it, the S2 was still a fun motor though, puny HP compared to modern motors, regular diesels have more HP and torque these days but weigh twice as much :D
