Gas account gone wild.

Wow That must be one massive hydroponics pot farm you were running ;).
Octopus got back to me and said they don't know why it has happened but have manually reviewed my meter and it's all working fine.
My account was automatically flagged for manual check and so I would never have been billed .... Until the issue is fixed they will make sure my bills get manual verification before taking payment. Like I said the meter is recording just fine

It's a good job as for at least an HR every day this seems to still be happening.

My Dad was issued with a gas bill for about £6bn shortly after the installation of a new smart meter. You'd think they had people to check but honestly trying to get common sense out of them was extremely difficult. We didn't get as far as the ombudsman but a friend used to be an energy ombudsman and they take an extremely dim view of situations like this.

out of curiosity i got a quote from ecotricity as i like the company and think Dale Vince seems a genuine bloke.
am not leaving octopus and am happy with them (certainly not now after seeing this) , just having a nosey over lunch.

48.26p per kw/h with 36.2p standing charge for leccy
11.26p with 35.4p standing charge for gas!.

i think for those fees i would be better of getting an exercise bike linked to a dynamo!!!

also to ad to that early exit fees for that 12 month contract is £200 per fuel so even if prices drop they have you by the nutsack

that is for their recommended tariff, i didnt look any further.

I see you, and raise you...

still cant figure out why the system wouldn't automatically flag this before it got sent out. We did get a phone call after a week or so saying we could ignore it!

Actually you can inform the industry watchdog/ombudsman. A copy of the bill and suggest that if the billing system is that buggy how do you know that you can trust the normal bills?

I deal with the back end of metering services, I can assure you people who have faith in sensible checks and balances being in place are highly optimistic...

I wrote the back end for East Midlands electricity and Yorkshire.. downstairs the team wrote the EACAA that everyone uses for estimation.

there’s strict requirements I how your take data given you and send out. Essentially if you get a duff reading it gets flagged for those systems. However when you have 14 roles in a market thus data flows between them the first thing the code does is validate.. self defence..
May have been 1997-8 when that was written but I still remember dataflow D0019 is the meter reading estimation IIRC :)

I saw on reddit yesterday someone was setting up direct debit with british gas or someone.
they were quoting him like 46k a year and wanted 11k or something for the first direct debit
