French police are watching them get in the dinghy and go on the beach how is this happening?

Because it's not a priority to France to be too successful in stopping it from happening as it would be France's problem to deal with and for them to negotiate with the EU on sharing the numbers out between themselves of which most don't want them.

France has dealt with far more asylum seekers in the past couple of decades than we have

It's not a competition on who has more. The EU should be dealing with the issue rather than looking the other way in hope that they will pass through to being someone else's problem. Most of these people are not asylum seekers, they're economic migrants that are using the asylum system as a loop hole to cherry picking their destination.

As we have a UK border check in France thanks to the Juxtaposed controls, surely the best way would be to set up an asylum processing centre there and then they don't have to risk their lives to come here.

The majority do get asylum, so they are mostly genuine claimants.

2/3rds of asylum applications in the UK result in some form of asylum being granted, per an article in the Independent today. So most are clearly legit.

And we were talking about who takes how many because @robfosters claimed we were getting so many because we were considered a soft touch, when in fact we take a fraction of France and Germany.

The 2/3rds argument could be because they've also been coached by various charities on how to apply and have made false applications that are difficult to disprove.

Or anywhere else they've passed through, or indeed the 26 countries of the EU so they're a pretty picky lot.

It's super weird how people won't accept the fact that people are illegally migrating here because they want to live and work in the UK without applying for a Visa, not because their country of origin is unsafe. I mean I accept the fact that their home countries are **** holes, but let's not pretend they're Jews escaping Nazi Germany at the threat of death camps, that's simply not the case.
