So ive recently flashed my windows install to a fresh copy of win 11, and noticed that my idle temps have increased by a margin. I was on windows 11 before also, just beta versions. My 3090 now eats around 100w+ on idle, with between 0-5% gpu usage. Ive gone through every self installed app I have and checked it it has hardware acceleration, checked win game mode settings and turned off the applicable one, and ran latest DDU twice. Both of the DDU runs make the card behave normally for the first 10 seconds of having the fresh driver, then back to static 100w on idle. Im convinced there is something I havent turned off on win11. The clock speed is also maxed to my prefered and so is the mem clock.

Any advice?

(also on the latest public builds of win 11)

Yep, probably those 3D accelerated widgets causing it. :D

I disabled them all at first install. As Delvey said, you should be idling at 200Mhz and about 70W.

I had this worry, mentioned in a previous post. It seems to have sorted itself now..but at the time I did have two monitors..how many are you running atm?

Interesting....I've just 'upgraded' to Windows 11, and can see from boot up my 3090 uses just over 100W, and stays there. Although I never monitored this on Windows 10, so no idea if its normal or not.

I do have max performance set in NVCP. And Windows Power Plan is set to 'Ultimate Performance'....Maybe thats it :D

I think perhaps I was looking at my total idle W rather than just GPU. It’s a good point. ;)

I got curious so checked how much mine uses

rtx3090 idle: 42w
5950x idle: 33w
Total PSU idle load: 92w (this will jump straight to 130w if I do so much as move the mouse an inch)

I guess the 17w variance would be for fans, rgb and pump and ram
