GPS tracker watch or a phone?

My eldest is at the age that age where we're giving more freedom (literally between to-and-from home and school at this point) and I want to be able to know where they are just in-case.

Are we better getting a watch or a phone (or both)?

And any recommendations?

If they don't already have a mobile then I'd probably go this route then It doubles as an emergency contact too. You're also surely going to get them a phone eventually and lets them keep in touch with friends.

The watch is exactly that without a phone. A watch. You'd need some sort of data to be able to track it regardless
