Hi all,

We are replacing the blinds but first I need to fix this, what would be the best way of doing so?

I would say the obvious is that you're hanging the blinds by the ceiling/plasterboard in the bay window which isn't strong enough. You'll need something considerably stronger behind it, or you'll need to mount the blinds another way.

I'd be taking the lot down to see what exactly going on behind there.
See where you can get some fixings into something solid.

Needs taking down. You need to be able to see where the wood is attached to and mark the centre points of that wood on the top of the window frame with a wipeable pen. Check that the wood hasn't come loose due to damp affecting what it's currently screwed to.

- Ideally remove the whole top section of wood.
- Probably have to sand it back to find where the screw fastening points are.
- Remove the top piece of architrave and save for later reassembly.
- Purchase a small sheet of plywood of the same thickness.
- Use the old piece as a template but also extending the sides forward to meet the window frame.
- Refit, paint, calk edges & joints.
- Use markings made on top of window frame to ensure blind is fixed to these points
- If the above fixing isn't possible then you could fix a plank of wood after painting it white, to those same markings, then fix the blind to the wood.

I'd:

* check for leaks on the outside roof
* attach a new sub ceiling (piece of cement board or something)
* attach the blinds to the window frame rather than the roof, although a new sub ceiling could make that less problematic

The blinds are obviously not sturdy enough to be hung by the ceiling or plasterboard in the bay window, in my opinion.
You'll either need to mount the blinds in another method or you'll need something much stronger behind it.
