Never really bothered me to be honest. What I find more annoying is how low the switches are in all of the extension. I believe it's for disability access/building regs but it's a load of nonsense and not a new building so doesn't require them .

I think in all houses you need to see past the minor stuff (unless your budget is unlimited )

Are you sure they have to? My sparky suggested it's only for new builds and not for extensions (same for reason sockets are circa 450mm off the floor). He's someone that applies common sense rather than building regs however.

Another one I've changed is the bathroom door which swings out into the hallway (now it goes "in"). It's also the largest door in the house (33" all others 30") which is particularly dumb.

The previous owner presented the house very poorly but at least I got money knocked off it to renovate to my preferred layout/look!

It is common sense, hence why the approved document specifically excludes extensions from part M1.

You do get building inspectors saying you should do the same with extensions though.

Although my guy was really anal, he tried to get me to change my build part way through to match the new building regs which had come out rather than the old ones which applied when i got planning permission and started.
