Apologies for chucking this into General Hardware - but I thought I might tap into the knowledgebase of OcUK....

Taking a look at a PC For someone at work - they had problems with BSOD ever few hours when gaming, so I suggested that it might be an overheating issues (maybe a "Please remove" sticker left on the cooler), so duly removed the cooler to take a look; all ok, so reassembled everything but oddly I don’t get anything on screen. Stupidly, I never turned the thing on first to check the output was ok to start with – but friend assures me it was all ok before.

Tower powers up, all the fans spin, the graphics card lights up – but I can’t get any display output. The connected k/b and mouse have no power, there are no beeps, though I do hear the hard drive briefly seeking…

Motherboard is as above, has a Ryzen 5 3600 – I did notice when checking the CPU, that the socket on the mobo feels like it’s snagging on something with the CPU installed – if I move the locking arm with nothing plugged in, it locks/unlocks smoothly; but with the CPU sat in it, there is a definite bit of resistance – so I’m not sure if the socket is damaged or not!

Tried clearing the CMOS, no joy, tried several monitors, cables etc – nada. CPU pins look fine, nothing bent or whatnot too. Also tried the display ports on both the mobo and the Gefore GTX they have installed.

This is the first PC I have worked on for a good 10+ years, that’s not an office one – so I have been used to hearing POST beeps etc, to guide one along the course of fault finding – but to have a LED lit monstrosity, sitting there making nothing but fan noise – I’m a bit stumped to say the least. I did have a nosey around t’internet, and found one similar story, which was sorted by a replacement mobo – that’s only £50 so possibly worth a punt; but I thought I’d at least try here.

Try booting with one stick of memory if applicable then try the other.

What psu is it ?

GAH! Why didn't I think of that lol :D

Ok - it'll boot fine with one stick in the slot nearest the CPU, both sticks tested ok with that slot, but anything in the second slot = no POST. So I'm guessing the second slot might be ******?

Does look that way.

A overtight cpu cooler can cause that and bent pins.

If your changing the motherboard go for a b450 or b550 something with bios flashback button most msi boards have this so check.

Think my colleague is happy to just run 8GB of RAM lol - each to their own, but will suggests the mobos, just in case they want to go that route in the New Year.

Many thanks for your help!

Your welcome.

Going to loose 20%+ performance in gaming using a single stick , would sugest testing both sticks of memory with memtest just to check.

Have a good one.
