Hi all,

I’ve not built a rig for about 10 years now. Looking to get back into gaming on pc having been mostly console based the past few years.

I’m aware of all the shortages and ridiculous prices on things at the moment. But hoping to secure an fe card to build my rig around.

I’m trying to work out what to spend. I’d like to game at 1440p on a 34” monitor. I’ve got keyboard, mouse so it’s purely just the gaming rig.

What’s the spend for a medium range rig and would that be comfortable on a 34” monitor (maybe 2 x34”)?
Thanks all

Hi

So your trying to secure an fe card ( which ) so do you just want the rest of the build ?
Honestly, no idea at the minute. I’ve become so out of touch with it all I’m not sure what to aim at. Seem to see the 3070 mentioned a lot but I don’t know if that’s overkill for 1440 gaming or about right?

That's not overkill for 1440p especially if you want high refresh rate and depends on the games you play. Some games are so demanding.

Intel Alderlake is the new king 12600k is the best value or the 12700k for a bit more demanding tasks best to read some reviews. I just put a build together minus gpu with a 12700k in another thread ill post below 32gb memory 360mm water cooler. Options can be adjusted to suit.

DE My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,071.82 (includes shipping: £15.90)

Here's an idea for the low end - substitute the 12400F and B660 board when they come out.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £590.62 (includes shipping: £11.70)

You will likely want a better M.2 drive too.

You'll also need a CPU cooler but OCUK seem to be updating coolers right now.

Thanks for that. Would you consider that a mid range build? I’ll probably be using it mostly for fps but will also have some rpgs in there too.

Is that what you’d combine with a 3070 then? I was hoping to keep the cost sub £1,000 but I guess I could stretch it a bit. I’ve got a voucher for sammy which I was going to use to get a 980 nvme. So can remove the one from that build to help the budget. Surprised at how much the mobo is. But appreciate you don’t want to cheap out on it.

Would that spec be ok streaming whilst gaming?

Thank you. Max budget is about £1k but really that includes the gpu so wondering what to go for there.

1k including gpu I'm confused a 3070 is going to be a big chunk of that. ?

My build would be mid to high end but obviously no gpu .

gpu is about £500 for an fe 3070 right? Would a 1k rig including a card be able to handle 1440 well on fps games?

Will a 3070 be overkill for the rest of the spec from quartz though? Ie will other parts bottleneck it too much?
No at 1440p gpu does more the work than the cpu not to say if you get a higher end cpu you may gain a few more fps but it's the best your going to get for your money.

Thanks. Any idea what fps I’d be getting with the 3070 and quartz’s rig?

That depends in the game and detail settings.
Fair. Appreciate the info. Monitor is going to be 165hz so expect it’s around that for max fps and then highest quality I can get away with, without affecting performance.

You can also add another 10% to his fps as he's using the Nvidia Gpus shadow-play feature to record.

Thanks. Doesn’t YouTube limit video though so what we are seeing there is probably not what he’s seeing?

You should be looking at the FPS readout on the side to get an idea of what each game can do on that spec PC.
