Nvidia to pay TSMC $7 Billion to secure 5nm

About 10 3090 Ti's should sort it.

Nvidia will need to sell a lot of GPUs just to break even.

Not a problem, public have proved they will pay anything so Nvidia already know they can charge more. Standard practice nowadays pass on the extra cost to the consumer. £750 for a 4060ti, yes please says Nvidia.

AMD on the other hand of gone the other standard practice route. Charge what near enough same price but reduce the size of the product, in this case reduce the quantity available. :)

I think this guy is a bit of a youtube joke but this video does make sense regarding the future pricing of gpus and other electronics.

I do believe that prices are going up due to the new technology required to make silicon dies and the R&D required to keep making more dense I.C's.

The guys voice is annoying so heads up..

GPU and CPU prices are only going to get WORSE in the future. What should you do?

Anyone expecting new cards to be twice as fast in gaming performance is in for a rough wake up, i am fully expecting double price though.

Well anyone that is expecting more than the regular 20-30% increase doesn't live in reality of the GPU market for the same class card of course. If we do get anything more than that then expect a new higher price tier to be placed on that gpu, they have in recent years even increased the price of tiers that have not shown even this increase in performance, reality is prices have only gone up even at the fake msrp. The 2080ti was the perfect example of doubling in price from the previous ti card and the 2080 was basically a 1080ti at a higher price. This generation well was all smoke and mirrors with fake msrp from the start and unicorn cards sold at msrp in tiny numbers just to show they were selling at msrp. Reality is most never got them at that and never will.

Same will happen when 40 series and RDNA 3 cards come out but difference is they will have a higher msrp from the start and still be more expensive in AIB form again. People will say well mining will be gone by then, but that won't matter as the cat is out of the bag now and has shown what gamers and normal pc users will pay for GPUs, just look at Intel right now with 12000 series cpus, the cpus may have a normal price but the motherboards are the scam part and even DDR5.

There will be no fix by 2023, I give it 5 years if not more for some sort of normality to return to the market, but again if the world is still under covid by then and other issues then this will become the new norm for good, soon people will be asking for pay rises to cover what they could buy before, it's not just computer parts that have shot up recently, the cost of living is slowly going threw the roof too.

Anyways we will see.. so far I don't see any of this getting better in the near future.

What you should do imho is hang tight for as long as you feel you can. Those that want to splurge go have fun but do so with the knowledge your money is going straight into Nvidia's marketing dept. coffers and the AIB directors

2nd hand value of 3080's and 6800's will also play a part, if you benefited from the price inflation it helps insulate you from the next gen costs.

Personally I don't upgrade my GPU until something with double the perf is available at a reasonable price, so if that means skipping multiple generations I can live with that all AMD and Nvidia have achieved is a higher point of sale price but once you average out over the years... ;)

A lot of people have only paid more this gen because of the ability to mine and offset costs so I doubt that will be a thing next time with POS incoming by the summer and also gamers have had to compete with miners for cards which again is unlikely to be happening by the time the next gen rolls around.

I like your optimism but sadly dont share it. That $7 billion has got to be paid from somewhere and guess who it will be aimed at ? Miners may no longer be buying the cards which leaves Gamers to pay the chip shortage tax.

If Nvidia price them too high then they will end up flopping in a similar way to what happened with Turing after the last mining boom.
