Dashcams support the proactive casualty reduction work of the police. NSF[TWFox]

Some of the videos posted on channels like UK dash cams are laughable and I wouldn't waste police time reporting similar situations.

A couple years back I did see something worth reporting though, a full on road rage incident with punches thrown. Took the footage to West Midlands Police who said that because I wasn't the victim and I couldn't say there was damage caused they wouldn't even look at the footage or log that any incident had took place. I was speechless...

did the guy in th BMW eventually get out and the guy who was punching his car ran away??

Well you will be stuck behind loads of electronically limited vehicles with dash cams :o

I voluntarily use my speed limiter now around 30/40mph streets. If the cars are travelling at the speed limit, how exactly are you "stuck"? You're not legally allowed to go faster anyway...

Trust me, I’ve been ‘stuck’ plenty of times.

This thread makes me glad that recording other people on the road (any non-private place in general) is illegal in this country.

Edit: To clarify "this country" is not the UK.

Don't you mean legal? You can photograph (or video) anything and anyone in a public place, including the roads.

No, illegal. You are not allowed to record anything that is personally identifiable or private property, so no faces, number plates, drone shots with people's houses in them, etc unless with explicit permission from all parties involved.

It's very refreshing knowing that there aren't idiots with dashcams trying to cause accidents for their YouTube channels or TikTokers pulling public pranks.

Which country? As I've stated, you can take a picture of anything and anyone in the UK, including faces, number plates, and peoples' houses in drone shots. Permission is not needed to take those photographs or videos, except if they are to be of commercial use.

There is no right to privacy in a public place, that really is the end of it.

Now if you set up a camera to specifically record audio/video from someone else's back garden without their permission, that could be against the law, but its not clear cut as it depends on the intention and if what is being captured is incidental or a material part of the footage.

Those people are a tiny minority fortunately - in many 1000s of miles of driving I've not yet encountered someone trying to force a situation for their dashcam.
