Honda CR-V what to look for?

Don't know much about them but vehicles like that often tend to have a corrosion/rust problem towards the back - but checking for rust underneath would be something you'd want to do for any vehicle of that age.

My dads had a few CRV, surprisingly nice to drive for a SUV. I believe Honda had an issue with the oil pump chain from 2006-2008 (not sure on the exact years) which can take out the bottom end.

my dad repairs engines aswell, so he’s had a few to repair over the years, none of the cars were made after 2009.

Look for corrosion as previously mentioned and check the service history carefully as the only thing that’ll kill them is lack of oil changes. At 78K it might be due a timing chain.

I’ve had 2, but they were both later models.

We have a petrol one of those and have had it for 8 years now with no real issues.
I would advise you to get the petrol version if it all possible as the 2.0 is a very reliable unit, the 2.2 diesel, less so.
It's really only the usual issues on a car of that age. Suspension bushes, dampers, springs, corrosion on exhaust and rear subframe, etc. etc.

We bought our petrol version when it was 5 years old and had 40k on it. It's now 13 years old and has 130k on it. The only - non-service - expenses we've had were a leaking damper, a holed exhaust, and a bad lambda sensor.

My dad has one this age, corrosion underneath is going to send it to the scrap heap in the sky in a year or two.

I know there are other issues which can reduce corrosion protection, etc. but IMO it is a crime better protection isn't done from the factory on vehicles - we have equipment at work of a similar construction but proper corrosion protection from the start - 20 years on almost as good as new - just some small bit where minor surface corrosion is starting to show in spots.

Yeah, seems to be a Honda thing, my Civic of the same age is doing the same thing with the rear axel mounts corroding away.

Not just Honda - lot of similar brands like Nissan, etc. sadly and none that I know of really cover themselves in glory when it comes to preventing it.
