hiya all,
its been a while since my last upgrade infact my reciept from overclockers says 2nd sept 2016, so im a bit ot of the new stuff, sockets and comapatibility. what i got last time was:-

Asus rampage 5 extreme socket 2011 ddr4 - mobo
intel i7 6950K 3.60ghx (broadwell-E)- chip
EVGA geforce gtx 1070FTW - graphics
samsung SM961 polaris 512gb M.2 - SSD

now ive been looking a little bit and not exaclty sure what to get as well as some say theres a new show in jan where things may change?? (saw it here in the forums somewhere)
but my initial eye has seen these just wondered what your thoughts are plz or anything better to get. would i have to replace all my old stuff or is any usable now?

regards
Dave

Intel Core i9-12900K 3.20GHz (Alder Lake) Socket LGA1700 Processor - OEM

Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Hero - Intel Z690 DDR5 ATX Motherboard

Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 32GB (2X16GB) DDR5 PC5-44800C36 5600MHz Dual Channel Kit -

Asus GeForce RTX 3070 Ti TUF OC 8GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Mixture of games rpg and mmorpg. And 3dsmax, zbrush and unreal engine 5. And also tinker with ableton live.

Many thanks.

Please don't pay £600 for 32GB DDR5. That is just crazy. I would stick with DDR4.

Also the 12700K is virtually the same performance wise for gaming. Not sure if the 4 extra E cores do anything for your other requirements. Worth checking as that will save another £150ish.

A bit more like this

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £905.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Not much mroe expensive than the ddr 5 you specced originally :O

Really awesome just the sort if info I'm after. Like I said its Been a long time so I don't know the stuff now. Have to look at the graphics card thing. As some still looks hard to get.
Appreciate it m8. Thanks
Dave.

So all my old stuff is really outdated then and needs replacing? Probably not worth anything either I'll bet?

There's been a significant fault found with these - a capacitor the wrong way around - which can cause fire. Stay away from them for the moment. And DDR5 prices are silly right now. Further, the B660 motherboards are in the offing.

With regards to the GPU keep your 1070 Ti but get Telegram and sign up for FE PartAlert and buy your graphics card at MSRP rather than scalped prices.

Thanks for your replies. I'll look into see what my stuff is worth then. Thought it was a trow away lol.

I just looked up FE PartAlert in telegram as I use that and only one I see in one in Deutchland. Can't see another.

Thank-you all
Dave.

I don’t think so. Those Intel 10 cores with 4 memory channels are still very handy. With good cooling and overclocking they can still offer solid performance. The GTX1070 and SM961 are the bigger bottlenecks.

Is your pc struggling with any tasks ?

Yes, they do a couple of countries at a time. They also dropped in the Netherlands at the same time. The UK's last drop was 17th Dec. You have to be quick - literally seconds count - so make sure you have an account set up with the seller (who unfortunately we are not allowed to name).

No problem.

What case are you using??

What case are you using??

I am using and have used for a long time my trusted "Coolermaster HAF 932". Its a big case that has lots of room in the front for my NZXT sentry LX fan controller, that takes up 2 bays and just looks cool lol, Had that years too. And there's the Asus RoG status/temperature screen in too (just 1 bay).
Was thinking of getting a new one but this just does the job great, loads of fans stock and add ons.

Thanks
Dave

No not really, I just felt it was time to upgrade as I have had this 5 1/2 years. I knew the graphics was well old as I have kept an eye on the new ones. So I just thought all the other stuff was as outdated as that.
Didn't realise the SSD was an issue thought that would be ok as its a SSD. Lol.
Wondering if I could get a 3070 ti or 3080 ti and get better SSD that may put me on foe a while. Then get mobo, chip, mem later???

Thanks a lot
Dave

That's a solid plan.

Just check your psu is up to the job if you get a new gpu.

Just had a look its a "Thermaltake Tough power cable management 1200W" should be ok I think.
So if the SM961 SSD is a bottleneck and kinda pants what would be a lot better replacement?

Again many thanks for all inputs.
Dave.

That CPU was monster for its time and is far from bad even today.
Might want to wait for maturing of DDR5 platforms and better pricing on memory.

Graphics card is far more behind time, at least if you game at modern resolution.

Current disposable fad cases are worser in functionality and upgradability than that, because of lack of 5.25" bays.
There are now only couple higher up cases left in OcUK's selection with 5.25" bays.
(like Corsair 750D)
