Hi just a quick question as graphics cards are extremely well over priced at the moment by 70/80 percent. In my current build I have 2 Asus GeForce GTX 980 "Reference Design" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card in Sli still going strong as ever 7 years now.I’m looking to buy the new Alderlake cpu and new m/b 690 .Should I just wack these two beasts in there or look for a newer GPU ?

A new Graphics card would be ideal, as your existing GPU will become the bottleneck with a new Alderlake chip.

However, given the current pricing of new cards, and whilst a 980 may be old it isn't exactly slow, it's likely worth hanging on to your existing cards until prices become a bit more reasonable.

Given that you have 2 of the cards though, and with SLI largely being unsupported these days, it may be worth selling one of the cards while prices are strong, and then save that money for when prices come down/stock is more available

Absolutely this!

About £170 to £200 a pop at moment for a 980 reference.

I would say try and get a reference rtx3050 as they should be £239 or something like that and so you could sell both and be in profit or sell one and have a spare in case.

The performance to price for your upgrade would be very decent and the extra RAM handy for future releases

Just try to get a new card first if you've got the finds.

ASUS GEFORCE RTX 3070 TI ROG STRIX OC 8GB GDDR6 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD for £1200 on overclockers in two minds is it too over priced or should I just sit it out a few months ?

Yes, it's too over-priced. It's rrp is somewhere around £500.
I agree with what others have been saying. Keep one of your 980's & sell the other one while everything is overpriced. Save that money for when prices come down & use your other 980 until then.
