Hi all

After an AM4 motherboard recommendation as I think my B450 Gaming Pro Carbon has failed
Using 5900X Ryzen

X570 the way to go? Happy up to say £150. WiFi would be nice, and a good amount of USB ports, maybe a USB C header for the future if I change case. RGB headers as well.
Any recommendations?

Thanks

In B550 boards B550 Tomahawk would be one of cheaper good boards, if forgetting Wifi.
MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk (AMD AM4) B550 ATX Motherboard= £129.95

In Wifi equipped good models price jumps up lot.
MSI MPG B550 Gaming Edge WiFi (AMD AM4) B550 ATX Motherboard= £179.99
Though if you're after lots of USB port expansion options, not sure if any B550 boards has more than one USB3 header. (not all even have USB-C header)

Difference between B550 and X570 is that only primary M.2 slot and graphics card's PCIe x16 slot, which are connected directly to CPU have PCIe v4 support.
Chipset itself supports only PCIe v3 speed and it has lower number of PCIe lanes.

And if you think X570 boards are expensive just wait for (over)hyped PCIe v5, which is even more demanding on signaling quality.

MSI MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI
Hmm, that's literally £10 less than the X570 suggested above.

I thought B550 supports PCIE 4 on the top slot as well?

OK, recommend me a good B550 board for 5900X please, ignore WiFi I guess I can get a dongle for WiFi and bluetooth

Not sure I'd recommend Gigabyte myself. I have their X570-I Aorus mini-itx board and while it's working ok, it's got variable coil whine on the power section of the board, and their BIOS updates seem randomly late. Anecdotally, I've also read that their general customer service and product quality is getting worse.

If I could choose a manufacturer now I'd pick MSI. The above recommendations for their B550 board seem a good starting point.

I have to agree with this.

Also bought same board for a small build, brand new and the overall quality was shocking. Scrapes all over with copper shining through.

I've had a B550 Tomahawk for some time now and it's solid.
