Hi,

I posted a similar thread when I built this PC, when the 5900X dropped. General consensus was due to current timing, I wouldnt see much improvement.
Im wondering now, with new kits, and more information available. Is that still the case.

Im running Corsair 2 x 16 16-18-18-36 @ 3200.
Am I going to see much gaming improvement (gaming is all its for, mostly FPS) going to 3600 or 3800 (assuming I can run my IF at 1900).

Let me say, I tried overclocking my ram, and didnt get far. I dont really have the inclination to learn enough, or spend hours fiddling, testing etc.
My ideal scenario, would be buy some ram, either plug and play, or use the common settings for that kit. IE drop the Patriot or G Skill 4000 down to 3800 16-16-16-36 or whatever.
I dont want to mess with timings and testing for hours.

I havent used 16gb of ram for over 7 years, so no idea if 16gb will do. Ive been assuming Ill go 2 x 16 as thats what I have.

Am I going to see meaningful gains? Or just a couple of FPS? (5900X/3080/PCIe4 Rocket nvme)
What kits should I be looking at?
8Pack 3600 32gb, Patriot 4400 32gb, G Skill 3600 32gb.

Excuse me sounding like a child. I just dont know if its worthwhile, if I wont put the effort into overcloking it etc. is up to £315 for the G Skill, going to gain me much in fps?

Thank you

For me it's not worth it goes a few fps , spend one hour tightening your timmings or overclocking what you have to get simmlar results.

And money in your pocket.

Appreciated.

Im a absolute **** with ram though!

Im assuming id have to increase the timings and voltage if I increase the speed?
Any idea of a starting point to try?

Try Thaiphoon Burner to see what chips are likely used and then Ryzen DRAM Calculator.

Also if those DIMMs are older than year or two they are propably dual rank DIMMs, which gives some performance boost from command interleaving.
(now only Samsung B-die using DIMMs are guaranteed dual rank)

Download dram calculator.

Loads of vidoes on how to use it.

Thank you

They are pretty old, reused them from my last build circa 2016!

You won't see a worthwhile improvement unless your gaming at 1080p.

1440p 144hz is target.

Should be dual rank DIMMs then.
Don't think any desktop memories used above 8 Gbit DRAM chips until couple years later, because of server memories needing bigger capacity far more.

Command interleaving pretty much makes dual rank 3200MHz equal to 3600MHz single rank in for example gaming performance.

It's a shame you weren't looking last month with the offers on RAM for a good 3 weeks or more. 2x16GB Dual Rank B-Die 3600C16 was £158.99. With the high tier components you have it kind of made sense to get them at such a price. At the current £209 not so much.
