hi guys ive recently just upgraded to bt full fibre 900 (finally came to wales lol), have been on bt full wifi coverage with max download speeds of 56mbps. so full fibre 900 is a major upgrade for me, i live in a single floor flat so i thought the smart hub 2 which i had from the previous package would be enough for the wifi coverage in my flat, but i have my gaming room at the end of a little hallway and my wifi speeds are not that good (150mbps) when using my ipad and iphone, im getting the full fibre speeds via my ethernet hub that i run my pc,ps5 and xbox through to the smart hub 2 which is located at the other end of the little hallway, but using devices that are wifi depended then speeds are very low,

am i expecting too much via wifi or is the bt smart hub 2 not good enough ?

Generally getting 150Mbps on an iPad/iPhone wouldn't be concerning to me as I personally don't need more than that when simply streaming/watching stuff but everyone has different use cases so I can't speak on that.
If you want to maintain speeds where things are staying above 300-400Mbps on 5Ghz, you need to be close to the router or alternatively get an AP and place it wherever you need.

The range that 5Ghz can travel is much smaller than the range that 2.4Ghz can.
If it's of any interest to you, there will be a Smart Hub 3 released in July accompanied by a Mesh system.

You can get additional wifi discs for the Smart Hub 2, if you're on a BT Complete Wifi package you get them free.
i have 2 already, which for a single floor flat i shouldnt need, i have turned them both off as that didnt make any difference apart from slightly improving my ring spotlight cam from the back of the flat, any reason i should be thinking of buying a third party router ?

You could try turning off the 2.4GHz band, although some smart home devices don't support 5GHz so that may not be an option. The Smart Hub 2 doesn't let you split the bands unfortunately.

wired wise I'm not complaining, doing speedtest on my pc that is connected through a switch and then to router, im getting near the max speeds its just the wifi speeds im not excited about.

If you expect 900Mbit on all your mobile devices and laptops, and all around your home aswell.
You're obviously going to have to do more than just use the hub and that's it lol.

I have no idea how the disks work and if you can wire them in via Ethernet. But you're going to lose a fair bit of speed if they're acting as a mesh where it's just picking up the signal and just boosting it.
You want an AP where it's wired in via Ethernet, if you can't do it with the disks then you'll need something better.

Also not sure why you want the full speed on mobile devices if they're only for streaming, watching YouTube etc, but each to their own.

wifi disks are connected to the router to pair them at the beginning then you disconnect the ethernet and move the disk between where the coverage isn't good, that's it basically, they have a ethernet port at the back of the disk but i have no idea how i would ethernet the disk to possibly a ethernet switch as i would need long cables to connect it to my ethernet switches.
so are the bt disks without being connected via ethernet actaully slowing my speeds down ?

Unless there's something you think you can do on an iPad with ~600Mbps that you can't do with 150Mbps then I would stop fiddling and just use your connection. I'd be reluctant to spend any money trying to fix it.

I have one of the black wifi discs which is connected via ethernet and I get 866Mbps off that on 5ghz on my Quest 2 and also on my Xiaomi phone and that is upstairs through a floor. I take it you have the black discs as I dont think the white ones are 5ghz. Also of course depends on the phone/ipad you have which you dont say.

You're definitely expecting too much of WiFi 5. The very, very, best 4x4 5GHz with aggregated 160MHz AC connections will be 600Mbps-ish absolute tops. Depending on what sort of iPhone and iPad you have you might find they're only 2x2 devices anyway. And then if you have 1x1 devices connecting then they'll quite possibly drag the whole thing down to 1x1 on half the WiFi and 2x2 on the rest of it. Given that 150Mbps is double what most UK broadband is anyway I suspect that's perfectly usable and you're only looking for more because you have a 900Mbps pipe coming into the building.

Very interested regarding your comment about the quest 2, I’m in the process of buying one this week and unsure as to buy the link cable to rule out any wifi issues connecting the quest 2 to my gaming pc,
Considering the cable is very expensive I’m in two minds as to just buy the quest and try connecting my black wifi disk via Ethernet to my ethernet switch hub to see if that would help regarding the incoming quest 2 and the connection to play vr games via pc.

regarding testing my wifi speeds I use a iPhone XS Max and the latest iPad Pro.

Dont buy the official cable just get a USB C 3.1 off the well know retail site. Loads on there for the Quest 2 for a reasonable price.
