Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 19th January 2022]

Thank god we have the third or we would be bricking it right now. Still not entirely happy but I would like to think we can protect a 2 goal lead for 10 minutes.

It just shows fielding 5 defenders hasn't worked at all as we still concede and are now just inviting pressure.

Instead of controlling midfield we are passing to out centerbacks who have no outfall now.

Dear god. If you have 5 defenders marking no one, perhaps one of them could move forward a few metres to cut out a pass or mark the player that will receive the ball, turn and come at the goal with a nice run on you. Its this sort of crap that I can't fathom.

Not only that, the ball goes free and gets given to Fred, who 9/10 gives it straight back because he's a ****ing fraud of a footballer, and I have no idea what Jose, Ole or Ralph see in him other than a pair of legs.

Well, that was an improvement, if not great.

West Ham will be a good test on Saturday.

:p If they turn up they will ruin us. We have had an absolutely gloriously easy run of games for the past 6 weeks. We are going to get battered when we start to play some good teams again.

I think our other options are so rubbish that there isn't much choice. VDB doesn't play in the same position as Fred, Mata has the pace of a 45 year old man and is about as strong as a 10 year old on the ball. Matic is old and slow and doesn't play the same role as Fred.

We need to buy a couple of proper CMs.

I’m not so sure we will get battered, we seem to pull good performances out against good teams randomly. So, what I’m saying is, I’ve no clue what Utd will turn up on the day and I don’t think anyone else can say with confidence either!

Elanga comes across well in interview :)

We basically need a player like Fred but who can actually play with the ball.

The funny thing is we could easily get one. Ship out Lingard, VDB, Matic, Mata and all the other deadwood and you wouldn't have to spend a single penny!

That's the problem with supporting Brentford at the moment. You can create loads through pressure and intensity, but when you've got Championship quality finishing then actually sticking the ball in the net is a problem.

The same largely applies in defence too. Paying attention isn't always easy when you've not played at this level before.

We ****** all over United in the first half... but we all knew what was coming in the second 45 mins.

Bah

xG was 2.73 v 1.98... in Brentford's favour... amazing.

That's 10 goals conceded in our last 3 games. A result against Wolves is very much required.

Frank coming across quite bitter in that interview. Working harder (in one half) doesn’t mean you’re entitled to win.

Lol. Not seen it yet but I don't blame him. We should have taken more points in the first half of the season, have since gone on a horrible run and then we finally create a load of great opportunities against a big team... but still get soundly beaten. I would hope he's bitter!

It's easy to forget how small a club we are. We've the smallest budget in the league by some distance... Norwich's wage budget, the next lowest, is double ours! Whilst our wage budget last season was in the lower half of the Championship... and our 10 outfield players tonight were all in our Championship side.

It's quite amazing that we've not spent the entire season in the relegation zone... but we're going to need to pick up points soon to avoid getting dragged in.
