Got a evga 3080 ultra ftw3, had for around a year but last few days during certain games my monitor goes black for a second back on fine for few seconds or mins then goes off again, Tried DDU in safe mode and new driver still does it, pretty sure its not the DP cable because it only happens in certain games and never on windows or easy to run games.

Games it does this in, control, deep rock galactic, forza, prodeus (although much less in prodeus but does happen compared to control and drg)

Hearthstone and Gwent both run fine but these run on mobile so hardly demanding.

Im assuming its either the card itself or psu? Ive never had a problem before this week.

Too add the psu was the only part of my build that I carried over from last pc, its about 6-8 years old now and is a 860 watt platinum Seasonic.

Anything else it could be? Guess only way to test is buy a new psu?

I'd try a different DP cable and pcie power cables (if you have any) just to rule them out before buying a new psu.
I had a weird crashing issue which turned out to be pcie power cable. Took me at least 3 gpu RMAs before I figured it out.

Honestly it could be a lot of things. No one here can say yeah mate it's the card without investigating.

Is your PC overclocked at all? Have you stress tested different parts in the PC? Replaced some cables?

If the card is a year old at least you should have some warranty left.

Thats a quality psu but you never know. Is the 3080 supported properly, ie. no sag going on and affecting pcie slot?

Not overclocked and nothing has been touched just started happening out the blue

It sounds basic, but I would definitely start by 1) moving your DP cable to another port and if that doesn't work 2) changing your cable

It could be many things but poor DP connections look a lot like that. Your demanding games could be asking for a higher bitrate from the connection than desktop or old games. Give it a go either way.

Sods law I gave my spare cable away a month ago -_- Going to buy another and maybe that sorts it

Thats what I get atm :(

It looks like the poor connection I had with my KVM setup (resolved by changing cables). Certainly those moments of black-screen are familiar.

Hopefully while its sod's law it's a simple fix :| I would try another port on the GPU and the monitor if it has one. If not, a new cable is a good next step. BOL!

Is there a reason why it only happens on harder to run games though? more data going through the cable or something? desktop and easy to run games it never happens

check to see if your pci-e cables are fully inserted into the psu and gpu as i had this issue a few months ago and turns out one of the pci-e cables wasn't all the way in

Are you using a riser cable to have the gpu vertical in the case ? or a small build with a riser cable ?

Also have you checked in the monitor menu if the DP is set to the right version too ? Some monitors are set to the lowest DP mode and that can allow older gpus to work and new ones but limit them too when you want higher resolutions and refresh rates. Check what version of DP you are running, gpu-z will also tell you that in the menu tabs one of them will list all the specs used.

This is what I was experiencing on more demanding games and it turned out to be the DP cables. They were cheap ones so I bought some VESA certified displayport cables and now I get none of that.

Yep it's mostly bandwidth related. Desktop, the data load is much lower. I'm not sure what the frame/refresh rate actually is but it's lower than a demanding game. However the issue should be there with high def video with a good framerate (youtube high res 60 FPS) as that also moves a lot of pixels, I'd imagine that with any decently high-res, high framerate game the issue would be there too. But from experience cable issues are a bit random IRL, some games are affected, some not. I've had HD movies play fine on Amazon but not Netflix.

It could be the card but it does look very similar to a cable issue and it would be an unusual card issue, that's all I can say. Fingers crossed...
