Do you service your boiler?

From my experience they clean it out, ie some dust/soot. One did use some liquid once I think to basically help clean up the burner

I think its mainly really for rentals (safety) and warranty ie manufacturers imposing expensive servicing as part of package to support their approved installers having to pay them fees.

Ive never had anything changed as part of a boiler service (we rented for around 10 years and it was done annually and never had anything changed)
Magnetic filters need cleaning

Only while it's under warranty, he doesn't do anything anyway just takes some readings and charges £90 for the pleasure, I would go else where but warranty states it has to be the installer or the manufacturer and the manufacturer is even more expensive.

Soon as warranty is out I'll get it done every two years until it fails

to be fair apart from its first service no. my fault never thought, boiler was 11 and a half years old and started to lose pressure the last couple of years. rang a couple of gas safe folk and one quoted silly money 77 pound per half hour the other one was recomended ex british gas fitter 60 pounds, but booked up for a couple of months. i explained what was happening and he talked me through a couple of tests to do and the upshot was the heat exchanger had pinholes in it. he then told me about the goverment scheme , and the fact that ideal the boiler maker did a one off repair scheme (similar to the one discussed on here to do with baxi i think) 300 pound all in.

in the end i got a new boiler and trvs fitted for same amount as a contribution (am on disibility) all done and dusted within 5 days. needless to say the ex bg fitter will get the service contract in future.

oh and the company that installed it was a company from the north east.

I tend to get mine done whenever it stops working. Which is approximately every two years. It's oil fired and about 20 years old (I would guess: we've been here nearly 10 years with it), but none of the fixes have ever been expensive.

I get mine done when it's due, more or less. I left it about 18 months before the last one and he did clean a load of crap out of it. I don't mess around when it comes to gas.

Not had mine done since install back in 2011. Works fine. Past any warranty now anyway.

If it displays an error code, fails to ignite, work etc.....then a service it will have.
Or I'll pay for a new one.

We get ours done annually, but it's an oil fired boiler and they are temperamental, all of the houses round here have issues with them.

I might see if I can replace it in the next few years, before they ban the sale of oil fired boilers.

No, I don't. Seems pointless paying someone to spend 30mins to stare at something and pretend to hoover up some nonexistent dust.
It's not really comparable to servicing a car.

I do top up the anti corrosion stuff in the system approx every 2 years though.

Completely pointless to have somebody check the safety and efficiency of a device running continuously in your home with the potential to kill everyone? Your choice, it is worth the peace of mind for me so I have mine serviced every year.

Used to get it done anually when my plumber lived up the road, then he moved out of the area and I couldn't find a regular guy to come, 2 years without a service now but just got a new guy's number this week.

I had mine serviced when we moved into the property, the guy was issuing me a rental certificate for it, and when I said 'no need, just for me moving in' he asked me why I bothered then and halved the price.... wont be doing it again for a while. It was installed in 2012 and rented to the point we moved in so had been serviced every year to meet the legal requirement.

Genuinely surprised at the number of people that don't regularly service their boilers, I thought it would be a much smaller number

Mines not technically in my home, everytime I've had it done so far I regret it. They just check the emissions then check the fault log and clear it, which I can do myself.
I think next year even despite it still having about 4 years warranty left I'll stop and just save the £70 a year for an eventual repair or new boiler.
