Next Gen cards - will there be a blind goldrush?

Almost certainly nothing more deadly than Omicron, virus is near peak efficiency doing what virus want to do, spread. Unless it's re-engineered and released into the wild again
Another variant with a lower viral load but spreads quicker than Omicron could still cause havoc.

Taiwan pretty strict in that regard. They've had spikes recently.

Yeah, it's completely pointless, stay at home if ur symptomatic or unwell as you would with a cold/flu. We're likely going to have a new variant with significant immune escape every couple of years as we do with other colds and flu's that are circulating.

Studies are now showing that the only segment of the population that have strong immunity to other strains are those that have been previously infected by the virus. I believe we only have correlated data for the Delta strain so far though.

how long before NVidia start to offer 0% loans to buy their cards, buy a 4090 only 48 monthly payments of 100 quid.
The problem is you probably have to jump through a lot of hoops to offer credit, especially given they sell the cards in many different countries / continents with their own FS regulations. I guess they could partner with organisations in different regions but the whole credit check thing could become a bit of a drag.

Ideally though what they would do is copy the car industry, have the equivalent of PCP where you buy a 3090 on credit and then when the 4090 comes out you can trade up, keeping customers locked in on "low monthly payments" forever. They then have a outlet on ebay to shift the secondhand stuff that gets returned.

I think he was joking. But yes I've looked into it before for our business and yes it's a bit of a nightmare, it's not quite as much work as setting up a bank but it's a lot of effort before you can legally offer a financial product like allowing your customers to buy on credit

I believe a lot of sites on the bay are offering credit deals and I've seen a few online retailers offering them also. I wonder how many people bought 3070/3080/3090, Tis and non Tis, etc ,on knock due to FOMO, and are now locked into a 3 year or longer deal and are now regretting doing so, especially miners who "recently" bought multiples are now staring down at a loss due to not being able to make enough from mining to pay for the cards.

Just a thought.

There are several ways of offering a credit service, only some require the business to register and be audited and regulated as a financial institution

the most common way retailers do is offering 3rd party service with no guarantee of approval - this is where the retailer partners with another finance company who lends money, they finance company will asses the customer and of approved you can buy whatever at that retailer up to X approved value.

Another option is a payment plan without a line of credit, for example allowing customers to do laybuy purchase.

If the retailers wants to lend out its own money, sign up the customer into a contract and charge them interest or fees over a contract length then they need to register as a financial institution

There will always be a % of people that will pay whatever it costs to get what they want even if that means loaning the money.

Personally I think end of 2022 will be the last time (for a while at least) AMD, Nvidia and board partners will get to truly fleece and exploit the market. 2023 and beyond appears to show more supply and more choice coming down the line...

It will also be interesting to see what effect this all has on console hardware as well because I can't see AMD ever signing a deal with MS & Sony on similar terms as they have currently, it might mean you see more large corporations owning or outsourcing their own chip designs...

Or those who in over two years have never had so much as a sniffle and have strong immune systems, plus those in low-risk groups to begin with.
