Hi I have just purchased an Mini PC barebones kit,

MSI PRO DP20Z 5M

I got it to make a mini PC to use for a plex server and basic PC to have in the lounge. I already had a Ryzen 3 3200G (Zen+) from a previous PC build that used to work in my X570 motherboard. I installed the CPU and some DDR4 2666mhz ram, connected the HDMI to a port on my monitor and powered up. However it will not post, and Im struggling to troubleshoot what is wrong. The MSI website suggests the CPU compatibility on the data sheet is listed as:-

AMD Ryzen™ 7 5700G
AMD Ryzen™ 5 5600G
AMD Ryzen™ 3 5300G

The chipset is listed as AMD X300, and I would have expected the CPU to be compatible with the chipset. I am struggling to find out exactly if the CPU is supported. Cant find much info on either the MSI or AMD about whether the CPU is compatible with X300.

I guess I will contact MSI support tomorrow but any ideas in teh meantime would be appreciated?

@LuckyBenski - What's the chipset in the one I sorted you out with thats x300 isn't it? and also runs 3200g/ge.
Spec sheet says AMD PRO 560... I'm not home to have a look!

OP I'd have thought 3000 series should work technically but it'll depend on motherboard producer's BIOS offering. Do you have another CPU to test with? I've had bad luck getting all sorts of Ryzen stuff to boot, almost always down to BIOS compatibility. Much more than any other CPU era.

Unfortunately I don’t have another CPU to test, only my 5800x in my main PC. As mentioned, it’s probably the BIOS on that particular board is not supported. I might have to buy a 5300G or a 5600G, if I get no joy from the MSI support.

A bit annoying as I wanted to use the 3200G I already had but I suppose it’s my fault for not checking first to see if it was compatible. I expected it to work, as assumed most of the AM4 stuff was backward compatible.

Unfortunately, AM4 has a mixed bag of CPU support. There theoretical compatibility with almost all chipsets but for example most A320 boards didn't get newer updates, and a lot of newer boards don't support first gen CPUs. There's just been such a wide range of CPUs on one socket, that board makers have had to make decisions/tough calls on what to do. I think it's related to how much they can fit into one BIOS ROM chip.
