Hey All,

We have a few motor enthusiasts on here, some who like their trackdays too, what are you views on these two pad options.

Pagid RSL-29

Performance Friction 08 Compound

I have never used pagid pads but have used performance friction but not 08 compound.

What are peoples thoughts?

What are you using them for? Every day driving or track?

Different pads have different optimum temperature levels for highest friction

So a track focused pad might work best when it’s hotter, so that you don’t get as much fade

But on the road, where you might not break for many miles at a time, this might not be useful/might be dangerous.

I've used Pagid RSL-29 and imo the cold bite might be a problem if you're on a morning commute and expecting to stop quickly when doris pulls out in front of you. Otherwise if it's a car that you can generally be extra careful with for the first 20 minutes of the journey then no issue with RSL-29.

PBS ProTrack were the most central for road<>track use that I've come across out of all the PBS pads, Ferodos (DS2500/3000/1.11) and Carbon Lorraine RC*' in terms of cold bite, capability and durability.
The DS3000 weren't far behind but needed a cooldown lap quicker than ProTrack did, though DS3000 last longer in general when on the road too.

Depending how infrequent the trackdays are then I'd try and lean towards getting two sets of pads if budget permits. Which you might want to do anyway if you're driving to your trackdays so that you at least have a spare.

RSL29 are great on track, best pads I've used outside of BTCC pads.…but I wouldn't want to use them on a daily driver as they do need a bit of heat in them to perform.

I wouldn't be touching Ferodo if I was going near a track, they're very easily ruined after a few decent sessions.

From a single source I knew the PF08's are noisy (squeal) and very dusty for road use and absolutely eat discs but they are phenomenal on track.

Not tried the Pagid's myself but heard great track-based stories about them but I don't know anyone using them on a mainly/mostly road car.

If the RSL29 is the same as the RS29 then it will put you through the windscreen with the performance (had them on the GTR). Very dusty, very noisy but amazing performance once warmed up and very little disk wear (the flip side is that its the pad that gets eaten and not the disk).

What car are they going on?

Haven't used yet but endless pads may be worth a look depending upon budget.

Expensive upfront but are meant to be cheaper over lifetime as they last for along (endless...) lifetime

Also, have you looked at the surface transform rotors?

There are number of good threads on pistonheads in the Porsche section regarding gt/turbo cars having brakes rotor & pads swapped over. If you search for ChrisW on there, he goes into detail on his brake choices for heavy track day use etc.

Decided to go with the PFC as have used them before and already going for PFC rotors, will grab a set of RSL-29 as backup.

Thanks for all the input.

Carbotechs are in a different league to anything I have used. Squeal like a pig unless super hot.

These would be "track car only" for me due to the unbelievable noise and low bite force when cold. I mean you really couldn't acceptably use them on a road car due to that anti-social cold squeal everytime you even look at the brake pedal and everyone around you (or in the car) will hate you! :D
