Hi all.

Have been with Plusnet for years. Sadly am right at the end of the line from the cab on FTTC and getting 35mb down and 5mb up.

The OR boys and girls have been out and looking I now have the option of full fibre 900.

I’m an EE customer for mobile and they are offering it also. Was gonna call see what deal I can get. Plusnet has yet to list anything.

Anyone got any tips or advise. I’m guessing I’ll have to pay an early termination fee
 
It's anecdotal evidence but people have claimed that you don't pay an early term fee if you're moving from PlusNet to another BT company
 
Okay so I got trigger happy.

I called EE and got a deal with BT. Was 99p between them but

EE could only promise a guarantee of 450 down and 50 up. BT however was 700 down and 110 up. For 99p no brainer.

I was also about to get this for £36.10 a month vs £55 a month. Wife got 20Gb mobile data added to her phone and we have 3 mobiles and got an additional 10% across all 3.

They confirmed I won’t have to pay a termination fee with Plusnet but advised to check. So I just spoke with them and because I am having FTTP and within the same group no fee. To start with the lady did want £198 but she then transferred me and too bloke on the end sorted it in 5 mins.

What a result. 700/110 min, installed on 8th March.

Happy days.
 
Nicely done. With BT 900 I doubt you'd ever see anything less than 900 either. The 700 minimum is just a policy they have to put in place. Fibre speeds are generally rock solid.

Thank you I though I did well. Hopefully. I am right at the end from the current cab. Not sure if things are any different with it being FTTP now but I just told kids and they are happy.
 
Latency is way more stable and you don't really encounter the same issues you do with a copper connection :)
BT was probably the best one to go for, hopefully all goes smoothly with the installation.

FTTP is different completely. You can be miles away from the cab and have virtually zero difference compared to it being on your doorstep :)
 
My only observation here is be careful what speed you buy. I seriously question whether many people could actually use 1gbps ( 900/100 ). In general I have found that many services on the internet are just not that fast and you have to be using multiple services at once to get anything like value for money out of 900/100. I would suggest getting something a tad slower first and see how you go.

We had 10GB once. It was well hammered by the kids

It's nice that feeling now when it's fiber into the home and all you have to worry about now is how good your network/routers/switches and Ethernet cables. No more external interference to the cabinet.

Sometimes it’s just nice seeing >100MB/s download speed in Steam :)
 
Called them this salvo. Date was a system error and they are able and have now booked the 18th March. However the kit date is still 10th May.

If it doesn’t resolve tomorrow I’ll call and I’m gonna push for 2 of the dishes. I want one for the garage/garden and one for upstairs.

I also found a nice wall bracket from that jungle shop for the hub.
 
Definitely nice to have but you can end up paying more for less utilization because downloads for example happen so fast. I've had two missed appointments recently by Openreach so yeah double check your appointment especially close to the day.

This is very true, I'd imagine most average consumers wouldn't notice any difference between 500Mbps and 900Mbps.
It's always nice to have though, irrespective of that, but most of the time it is more of a want rather than a need but I guess that's completely fine as well.

For me personally latency/jitter & packet loss is a way more important factor, I'd take a 100/100 connection with 1ms to London PoP's over a 940/940 10ms connection.
At the same time I do understand those that do need that faster speed, but I feel as though most people perceive a slower connection to automatically be less stable.
Of course it's easier to saturate the link, so there is some truth to it, but not so much when you already have a 500Mbps connection.
