Miners get PWND

Problem is you can apply the same rationale to anything that uses energy. People in the GPU section just be angry that non gamers might be buying up their cards

That's very simplistic, and I don't beleive correct. We have our work and play time, both requiring some form of energy. GPU mining is something that can run along side our normal life 24/7, using up many lifetimes of energy. The problem isn't GPU mining itslelf, but the, perhaps ignorant, greed for more than our share of energy.

If the world was as simple as the picture you paint, we could simply hand out GPUs to replace food banks, the homeless, etc.

There seems to be this misconception that anyone that mines is a professional with hundreds of graphics cards working away.

Some people do genuinely predominantly game and just run nicehash when they’re not gaming.

Either way this sort of thing or bricking etc is why I tend to personally stay away from any of these things, it’s the same with people bricking their cards trying to flash 500w bios etc

No problem what-so-ever with anyone mining on their personal rig, or even with a small scale home setup.

My problem is with mining farms, and its not due to some high minded environmental non-sense, its purely down to spite because they are the reason i cannot afford to upgrade my hardware, if anyone reading this thinks i'm an unreasonable bitter plebeian yes, i am, 100% + markup on GPU's isn't fun, you're gambling with millions and i hope crypto suffers a sudden disaster and you lose every penny of it.

No-one is wishing death, just that their rigs catch fire/explode or whatever.

There is a very real possibility that when someone is asleep in the middle of the night and their PC next to them or in the next room catches fire or explodes that their house/flat burns down with them trapped inside. So yes, you are wishing death on them, which quite frankly makes you a bit of a ****

No you can't. That's blatantly obvious. I've never had a problem geting a card either.

Mining is morally and ethically indefensible and you know it.

If miners said "Look I don't give a ****, I want the money" I'd have more respect for that than them pretending mining is fine. It's not. It is a disgustingly selfish and irresponsible practice.

;)

Me and you will never agree - It's simple. People do what people do regardless if you like it or not. Choosing a gas guzzling car or flying 6 times a year all have possible negative implications on others, the same way mining has negative implications on others, your choices, my choice, all have the potential to have a negative impact on others. You are just blinded by hate, which is fine but id strongly recommend opening your eyes.

Ok lets play devils advocate for a moment... So flying 6 times a year is fine and an ok use of energy while leaving a GPU mining which (lets say for argument sake) uses a similar amount of energy is not? One is fine but the other not because you can't fly in parallel with another task? Or am I completely misreading your point here?

I'm not describing a simple world, I am not even painting a picture. What I am doing is pointing out that this forum, particularly the GPU section has a constant undertone of the self-righteous and posts like the ops and subsequent posts really show the place for what it has become.

No, I don't think flying 6 times a year is okay.

From the forums point of view, people are affected mentally by GPU miners. That's not a selling point either.

I agree with Vince, there is a constant undertone of the self-righteous here and it shows a lot in particular in the GPU forum amongst other places too.

Having been a lurker for a while it's good to observe at times and see both sides of the argument but the bias people show when it doesn't suit them is incredible.

Just admit that even though you know it is morally and ethically wrong, you want the money. I'm fine with that.

Just don't try and spin lies about it. My eyes are open, I know what mining is and why people do it, it is you that are lying to yourself.

Admit it man.

Surely a disproportionate level of energy consumption is bad for the planet regardless of the cause. Whether it's a mining 24x7 or doing the school run in a landrover etc.

People who say that mining is bad for the environment DO NOT think it's okay to have 6 flights per year or any other form of high energy consumption.

I'm not against mining for the sake of it or because I'm bitter etc.

Do you even read? I don't mine on GPU's. Whatever your agenda you would do best to drop it as you are just making yourself look a bit of an idiot - You said this...

I hope all their rigs set on fire, that would pls me immensely.

I pointed out you and people like you are part of the reason for the decline in the GPU section. Whatever your agenda against me is I don't really care, your arguments to back up your off the cuff poorly thought about comment is whatever it is and most people here see straight through it, you see, you thought you would get a load of people saying how right you are and that yes we all wish their rigs set on fire etc, when in fact you got called out on the pathetic comment you made - That was your comment and you should own it.

Id hazard a guess that the large majority are also not going the extra mile to save as much energy as possible... Either way this is a conversation I am probably best bailing on because I am very likely to rub even more people up the wrong way. It's not even because I have strong feelings one way or another but because reasoned debate with the "I hope they set their house on fire" brigade isn't something I wish to continue. - For the thread yes I don't agree with large scale mining but on the whole its a tiny issue amongst much larger global issues.

LOL! You think I was born yesterday? of course you've been/are mining...that's why you got so butt hurt...

Judging by your initial comment and follow up arguments it very possible you were born yesterday. I didn't even need to say it, you said it for me. To clear it up for you in a super simple way.

Do I mine? Yes I mine Chia and Helium
Do I GPU mine? No not anymore. I make better money with next to no power usage off of my helium miners.
Did I GPU mine? Well yes you can search on my posts and see that I was active in the community for a long time...
Am I butt hurt? - Not that I know of.

There was an attempt to come in with reasoned debate but by post 10 any chance of reasoned debate was long gone. As above this is why I will gracefully bail from this, not because you or anybody with the "I hope they set on fire" attitude has won the battle but because reasoned debate around a topic ends up littered with hate and frankly your opening post epitomises that outlook. Even if I did mine on 50 GPU's right now id be having the same argument.
