Ukraine Invasion - Please do not post videos showing attacks/similar

It is a good question - normally strikes like that would be followed up by large scale cruise missile and artillery then moving in quickly to capitalise on it - not giving the defenders time to reconfigure to offset losses and reposition.

I could well be wrong here and the war may evolve, however everything i've seen over the past 24 hours is not compatible with what the Russian military apparently is, it seems to be operating and equipped like something out of the 80's.

You might want to read the second line of that post - it puts the first line in a bit of a different perspective to how you are reading it.

I've read it, you're relying on some randoms at some unspecified time saying it was quiet when clearly the attacks had already begun... I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make now - you get that the invasion has indeed started now right?

Unless Russia goes to a full war time footing they can't push anything like those numbers at Ukraine and even then they have other considerations not just Ukraine i.e. not leaving their other borders weak.

Even if they have an agreement with China they know full well how hollow such agreements really are having made a similar agreement with Hitler.

So there's no reasonable circumstance for Russia to give up defending it's borders and they can't really move positions facing NATO in case he's caught with his trousers down.

Where is it?

That sort of rate of attrition would be super costly for them if this carries on....

They haven't entered the city's yet where armour and aircraft become pretty much useless and Russian troops would be cut down from every side just like Germans was in Stalingrad, I don't think they have a plan to take the city's I think they are hoping Ukraine capitulates.
There's growing protests within Russia as well, this could turn very ugly for Putin.

It does get kind of tiresome when someone goes with the most idiotic possible interpretation of a post(s)...

PS those saying for instance it was all quiet in Mariupol aside from distant bangs despite claims of a full on assault on the docks were people with a Twitter account located in that area and a posting history of photos, etc. of the area and previous events, etc.

Watching Question Time and they are talking about our armed forces not being strong enough compared to Russia.

Why do people keep talking about this? It doesn’t matter if we have 10,000 more tanks, a major conflict with Russia means nuclear weapons, tanks are irrelevant at that point.

We could scrap a lot of our military hardware and just keep Trident - we’d not be much worse off.

Because you can't use them, they just stop the other side using them.

Think how far Russia would have to go before we considered using nuclear weapons vs using traditional military hardware.

China would move in given half a chance imho. On the surface they look pally pally but it's only because of a common adversery. Their relationship has always been a bit weird and even though it's been resolved for 15 odd years I wouldn't trust China not to grab some land given a weakened Russia.

Does seem likely with the amount of heavy artillery, etc. pulled out of storage the hope has been to quickly surround concentrations of people and armies then use "shock and awe" to try and get them to submit and failing that it will get very nasty.

Indeed other than having a common adversary there is little love lost between them.

Grab Russian land? I severely doubt that for the same reason the west are reluctant to escalate things with Russia.

I didn't claim anything about a full-on assault at the docks... some randoms on twitter talking about distant bangs aren't necessarily good sources to rely on re: assuming nothing is happening.

"Claims these are SRBM attacks against military bases and air-defences - I'm seeing nothing yet to substantiate it though."

I posted announcements from Putin, Bide, a credible journalist talking about jets going overhead etc.. This all seems like a bit of a cope because one (of the several tweets linked to) had some old footage? It was abundantly clear that attacks were taking place against military targets by then.

Russias whole mantra of peacekeeping and only going in to remove the nazi government (lol) rather falls flat if they have to start carpet bombing and decimating cities. They’ve lost on very front at that point.

I wonder if it's fair game for Ukraine to store their planes in NATO territory and use that for take offs and refueling. It's only going to be so long until the runways in Ukraine are pummelled and inoperable.

Probably not, at least not flying operations directly from NATO territory. Of course they might be able to send cargo planes to resupply there but flying missions from NATO territory would be a risk I doubt NATO countries would allow.

That’s true but it’s a very difficult balancing act.

I hope Putin isn’t prepared to one day test the resolve of NATO. Are we really going to end the world for somewhere like Estonia…? (no disrespect intended but I’m sure people understand the point)
