Can't really believe anything Putin says at this point (if there ever was a time).

It's going to much worse when/if they successfully take over Kyiv and effectively control the country (to whatever degree that is). They'll no doubt (owing to the ridiculous rhetoric around their rationale for the war) begin summary trials of the members of the Ukrainian government and armed forces where they will be charged erroneously with genocide/being Nazis.

We might also see a change in rhetoric from merely being about Russian ethnonationalism to straight out Slavic ethnonationalism which should be rather obvious where the intention will be next.

The worst part of it is that in the West there are sympathisers who will look upon this and be emboldened by such belligerent actions. Fair to say that we'll be seeing an increase in political extremism in our countries, but hopefully the majority see through the poop and stop being so apathetic about the threat we face.

EDIT: Supposedly the distant explosions audible around Kyiv are from action ~20 miles to the north currently.

I can't see Ukraine holding out for long after the capital is taken.

The capital may not be so easily taken - if they have the man power, weapons and will it could be a long and bloody fight - Kyiv was designed to soak up a besieging army and that still holds up against modern forces - but it will leave forces elsewhere cut off and alone.

We don't have enough air assets to protect Ukraine's airspace, even if we sent both our aircraft carriers at warp speed the combined might of the RAF and the Royal Navy would be laughed out of the sky by the Russian Air Force.

I mean I’ve always known it as Kiev, and I’ve only started to see it written as Kyiv since this situation developed. What a completely weird (and not entirely valid) point to try and pull somebody up on

If by we you mean NATO then we easily have enough in the area alone.

Putin will lose command and be replaced. The replacement will need to negotiate peace and undo the mess with the sanctions otherwise the economy will spiral.

I'm not sure, if Putin were to be replaced the oligarchs who kept him there for all this time will quickly find a replacement to maintain the status quo. Too much money is on the line to let some pro western/anti corruption president get elected.

They are going to have to do a whole lot of that, and I don't know they have the missiles, against a range of targets, if they want to force some kind of cease of this conflict.

Don't know how to confirm this but there are alleged increases in radiation around Chernobyl.

I believe it's down to the mass armour churning up the radiated soil in the area.
