Agree but my point being just because they get some armour there doesn’t mean they’ve taken it. Ukrainians don’t seem to be taking them on in the open countryside as they’re outclassed in the air and outnumbered on the ground. As soon as they hit cities that flips

That's a good point, but the Russians have no need to hold these smaller cities, they just need to push through them on the way to Kiev. Then, when enough armour has arrived, they can take the capital.

1,000's of Chechen troops from Kadyrov's brigade (They are known as Kadyrovites) have just departed Grozny heading for Donbass and Kyiv It's being widely reported.

Armies need supply lines, and they need places to retreat to if they get beaten back.

Planning.... not doing, they should have done this from the start, Putin ordered this attack, nobody else

I have to wonder, if news like this is actually propaganda to trick the Russian citizens into thinking that at least they are trying to end this peacefully

Russian forces reportedly take control of airfield near Kyiv
The Russian Defence Ministry says its forces have taken control of the key Hostomel airfield near Kyiv, Russia's Interfax news agency reports.

It says 200 Russian helicopters and a landing force were used to seize it. It also says Kyiv is “blocked from the West”.

200 helo's ? They didn't **** around this time

Yep 20 down leaves them around 1, 180 usable tanks still to go, gove or take, and another 26,980 armoured vehicles after them.

Really heavy damage, really going to slow them down.

It is like fighting against Niagra falls, it will just keep coming, you try to stop a bit, but the flood behind it keeps pushing through.

Exactly they lost the war when Putin declared it yesterday.

It's a matter of damage control now, just how much resolve Ukrainians really have to literally fight to the death......

****Ing mess. Good luck to them. I'm way too much of a coward for that.

I suspect in a year's time Putin will move to the next target.

Occupation of Ukraine... That's another issue.

They don't even need to actually take the capital.

In fact I very much doubt they want to.

Russian command, and Russian troops see Ukraine as a part of them, they do not want to cause massive damage or casualties.

Just get to a position whereby the incumbant government realise they cannot win, so give up and capitulate, with minimum losses.

Armour or airpower can't hold or clear built up areas they need Infantry to clear with the Armour, if planned correctly this could get very messy for the Russian forces.

@Entai I agree, also apart from capturing the politicians why even take Kiev. How many days food will there be in the city? One assumes Putin wants an East and West Ukraine ala Germany with East Ukraine de-militarised and under his thumb politically. He doesn't want to destroy it.

It won’t be possible for Russia to win this with the population against them. They will never be able to hold any city long enough. They have yet to take a single city so they are struggling.

Will get even messier for Ukranians.

Like i said previously, it is like trying to stop Niagra falls.

As shown by the airfield near Kyiv, Russia send 30 helo's, and get beaten back temporarily.

So next time they send in 200, and take the airfield easily, try stopping those say the Russians.

Stop a few, hundreds/thousands more follow.

I think it's a bit more complex than that.

The main Russian objective is to seize control of the Ukrainian government and state apparatus. That's when they've "won". Bonus points for capturing the political leaders alive so they can try them kangaroo style. But they must capture or kill the current government.

It remains to be seen if the current government can remain at large and coordinate a guerrilla style resistance. And/Or if longer term they leave Ukraine and try to do it from abroad.

There's a couple of people in this thread, the sames ones telling us this invasion was never going to happen, now playing the 'but the evil west' card. Surely Mods should be banning these morons?

Do you ban everythign you disagree with?

They might be wrong, but the removal of free speech is a slipperly slope.
