What's the mechanism called where you lift the lid of a desk and something pops up and out at you?

I'm trying to google it but I can't find anything. I think it's used on hobby/craft/makeup/paint boxes sometimes.

Google keeps giving me standing desks with cantilevers but all I want is to know how to make it so that when I open my school desk lid, the equipment I have in there pivots up and out to me (on a spring).

It's an old school desk and i'm adapting for music equipment and I want to have all the buttons and knobs tilted towards me and higher when it opens.

Thats a great design for a DJ desk setup if you didn't want all the gear out on the desk 24/7. Might try and fashion something similar when I buy some new decks.

String won't work as it needs to be rock solid and I don't want to have to pull it out; I'd rather it just popped out and back in when I open and close the lid. Like a popup book.

Try an angled bracket on either side of the flap, so as the top opens it lfts the inner upward. A locking stay arm or two can help keep everything in place, for added stability.

Screw a couple to the underside of the desk top. When you open the top they will pivot, catch the back edge and lift up the inner deck.

it looks like you need a stay hinge with some kind of coupling mechanism.
