Monitor shows no signal so I think I may have damaged my GPU, reccommendations for a new one (£500)

Something I've come across in the past is the interference of the pc case not letting the hdmi cable plug seat in far enough into the gpu's hdmi socket. Going by your pics, it looks like that might be happening. If it were me, I'd slacken off the two gpu clamping screws (that secure the gpu into the case), plug in the hdmi cable and ensure its "fully" seated and try that. I would also suggest you do this with the pc on it's side so the gpu is sitting vertically so as to avoid too much movement of the card in the pcie slot.

yeh the cable did seem slightly loose but i tried it again with motherboard disconnected from case and same issue.

Try the gpu in another pc?
borrowing a friends one tomorrow.

And the GPU in another monitor with a different cable as well.

dont currently have another monitor but my laptop works with the current montor with both cables

Try removing the GPU and using the onboard graphics to see if the PC is actually booting

unforyunately no onboard graphics card with this cpu,

Just tried that, seems it may not be a gpu issue, frien'ds gpu also does same thing

And the GPU in another monitor with a different cable as well.

my hdmi cable works for my laptop so no issues with cables its seems

unfortunately my cou doesnt have onboard graphics.

Could this be a psu issues or the cable from psu to gpu, eveything seems to work fans, cpu fans, lights except for GPU fans they don't turn on but i guess they dont need to on start up.

My system is :
CPU: AMD RYZEN 3600
GPU: AMD RX 5700 (Used another GPU so dont think its the issue)
MB: MSI TOMAHAWK B450 MAX
RAM: CORSAIR 3200 16GB
PSU: CORSAIR CX750 (Old but definitely enough wattage)

A recap:

  • Switched GPU so don't think issue with GPU
  • Moved GPU to slot below - same thing happens
  • made sure cables physically were sitting tight with the HDMI/DP output
  • used HDMI AND DP cables, tested HDMI with a laptop and that works so I don't think issue with cables
  • removed both RAM, one RAM and NO RAM, still no display
  • unscrewed motherboard from the case
  • PSU seems to work as all fans work except GPU fan but that is expected I guess
  • When turning the PC off, the fans on the GPU move slightly so I assume there is some power there.
  • Removed the CMOS Battery and replace
I'm narrowing it down to either

- Issue with MB
- Issue with PSU or its cables, it's about 10 years old or more I think
- Some technical issue

You could try a different PSU,but the only way you can test whether the motherboard has defaulted to the DVI port on it,is by using a CPU with an IGP.

Thnak unfortunately I have neither spare PSU OR CPU, what reasons would the motherboard default to DVI? All i did was clean out my case and removed a few screws. :(

My 3800X got stuck to the old cooler when I went to install a new cooler and I bent some pins.

I didn't know I had bent the pins until I fired up the PC and had the same symptoms you are experiencing.

Thanks everyone I finally solved the issue!

I followed a few youtube videos and one suggested cleaning out the RAM and using a rubber to rub the gold plates of the RAM, supposedly there sometimes is residue on it and prevents the motherboard from detecting it properly. Granted my RAMS didn't seem dirty or particularly dusty but I thought I would give it a try.

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions

Glad to hear your problem was solved!

Awesome!

so despite not removing the ram before the problem started, taking the ram out and cleaning it fixed it? sounds like it wasnt in properly to begin with and while cleaning you jarred it loose

Most likely. Family member thought they had broken their PC cleaning it/fiddling with it and it turned out one of the RAM sticks was not pushed down all the way.
