Russia is ready to 'work closely' for resolution of 'Ukrainian problem' - Kremlin

So evil Putin what was this all for? If anything it's made you the worst country for years to come.

Putin should pay for this.
I don't believe anything he or the Russian government say.

Made himself, his cronies and his military look like clowns whilst simultaneously destroying any reputation they had globally. Their economy will surely tank if/when the big guns are pulled out (swift etc).

Golf clap for Vlad.

I hope he actually de-escalates rather than doing something crazy because he feels his pride is wounded.

Russia only have Soviet era tanks (T72,T80,T90) and and IFVs (BMP1, BMP1, BMP3).

What's this new stuff people are talking about? Even amongst those volume is generally on the older versions. Only a few hundred of T90 active while thousands of T72/T80 active.

Who knows what’s going on in his head, yesterday he was calling the Ukrainian politicians drug addicts.

No doubt next it’ll be rapists, child molesters and animal abusers.

There are both unmodified and very modified versions of the same tanks in operation. What people are saying is they seemed to have committed quite a few unmodified tanks into the battle with 30 year old ERA and sighting systems.

BTW,if people want actual confirmed losses, follow this blog:
https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2022/02/attack-on-europe-documenting-equipment.html
https://twitter.com/oryxspioenkop

It uses actual OSINT to verify losses, and is widely used as a source in the media.

Worth keeping in mind that it's inevitably going to lag though, in real-time it will be underreporting losses but will be useful later on. Quite possibly only recording a low double-digit % or less of current losses right now.

Some more perspective to add, a lot of the equipment they have lost recently in Ukraine is stuff that was either current or already old during their Afghan war in the 80s. I.E that wrecked tank I showed earlier is a model that had been superseded by the end of the 80's.

Some more perspective; that's the equipment they have in general!

Most of their equipment is old ergo most of what you'll see in Ukraine is old... Also consider that what you're seeing in Ukraine is stuff that actually works and units that are at least ready (to some extent) for combat, the same isn't true necessarily about the rest of their armed forces in Russia.

How would you know if they are upgraded or not?

Not to the degree some are reporting here, especially as you are forgetting there is a tendency for countries to overstate or understate losses for moral purposes. During the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict both Armenia and Azerbaijan made grandioise claims about materiel losses, especially the former. Many on the internet believed it,but when he confirmed the claims it was quite clear many were not accurate.

As much as I want the Russians to get put in their place, truth is always the first casualty of war.

You need to look at some of the figures being quoted - between 500~1000 vehicles being destroyed and dozens of aircraft/helicopters.Claims from Russia they destroyed the Ukranian Air force and air defence systems, when social media literally shows this to be a lie.

You can't hide stuff from modern social media when everyone has a smartphone.

How would you know if they are upgraded or not?

Must admit I'm surprised, for decades now Russia has been billed as the big bad bear from the East. Tough as houses, scary as hell. Even as recently as a few years ago there were many people saying that if Russia wanted to storm westwards they'd roll over us. What I've read so far of this war though it seems like they are a largely out of date military with some very average fighting ability. Seems to me that no matter what happens in Ukraine from this point on, the idea that Russia is a military superpower (nukes aside) has been blown apart. We used to talk of the top military superpowers being the US and Russia, has this war sealed Russias fall out of the top two military superpowers?
