I personally think it's all over. By which I mean, they'll talk, agree to some things, no more invasion, no nukes and that's it. Tonnes of refugees though and the Ukraine will be in disarray for a long time.

I'd genuinely be surprised if anything meaningful arose from these talks.

I found the video I mentioned earlier. This was the video of when Putin was discussing going in to those 2 rebel held areas to defend them. But it looks like they knew it was the start of something bigger.

That guy was scared stiff that he might say the wrong thing, says a lot about Putin grip on Russian politics.

LOL yup I remember seeing that a few days ago, SVR boss going off-script slightly then getting a dressing down.

We all knew that his video released at the time of the invasion was pre-recorded days earlier too.

A Ukrainian sailor has admitted trying to sink a yacht owned by the head of a Russian state arms firm, in retaliation for the invasion of Ukraine.

The 48m (157ft) Lady Anastasia, which belongs to Rosoboronexport director general Alexander Mikheev, was docked in Majorca in Spain when the mechanic opened valves in its engine room.

He was arrested by Civil Guard officers on Saturday and later released on bail.

He told a judge that he regretted nothing and would do it again.

The man said he tried to scuttle Mr Mikheev's yacht after watching news reports from Ukraine on the television,

"There was a video of a helicopter attack on a building in Kyiv," he was quoted as saying by local media.

"They were attacking innocents."

On Saturday, a high-rise apartment building near Kyiv's Zhuliany airport was hit by a missile, leaving a hole covering at least five floors.

There was no immediate comment from Mr Mikheev or Rosoboronexport, which exports Russian defence products, including tanks, fighting vehicles, aircraft, ships, weapons and ammunition.

Ha, fair play to him.

Aljazerra (sp) caught the last few seconds of the feed from these talks and what i will assume is a translator said, "we will accept these terms" then people started to stand up and camera man went a bit funky. No idea if this was the actual talks, looked like the room that was posted last night.. dunno.

Edit: Still talking so it could have been from something else.
Edit 2: Nope, it was the talks being discussed now.

Perhaps they agreed on the lunch order.

I hope these talks are productive but its hard to see how they can be.

People make light of the fact he used to be an actor/comedian but that actually came in useful apparently in the earlier meetings with Western leaders, previously UK and US were backing him hard but when he addressed European leaders directly and made it clear that he's fighting here for Western/European values, that that is what is at stake here in Ukraine then they were persuaded and the countries going in with silliness re: exemptions before or blocking other sanctions switched to being supportive.

Soft skills not just important in business but even among world leaders that perhaps swayed things and now not just the US, UK and a few EU nations are behind him but all EU nations seem to be on board:

Despite the devastation and displacement of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians, i do think that would be the better outcome. I don't think Ukraine particularly wants vengeance/revenge on Russia for the attack, they just want to go back to their normal lives without fear of being invaded.

I'd wonder if both Ukraine and Russia would agree to Ukraine accepting the annexing of the Donbass region in exchange for Ukraine joining Nato.

Russia would at least get the area they claim is "independent" and mostly favoured by pro-Russians, and Ukraine would at least be able to move forward knowing that being part of Nato would mean Russia wouldn't dare attack again at some point in the future.

Ukraine has done surprisingly well in this war, thought Russia would walk over them but it seems the opposite at the moment, Ukraine is well 'ard.

Apparently queues of refugees to the border of Poland stretches back 40 kilometres! Estimates are that over a short period of time about 3 million Ukraine refugees will be in Poland.

The only thing I can see being accepted is to put things back to before Russia invaded and to withdraw the Russian forces away from the border.
