Has anyone here taken any precautions and started to make preparations for an eventuality if nuclear war was to take place? Had a quick look and did not see a thread for it discussing what kind of things to buy etc.

Get yourself a copy of Protect and Survive to peruse through for the hysterical laughs whilst you await imminent vaporisation, aside from that everything else is pointless.

Few caves around me in the Peak District. Although wouldn't have enough time I'm sure. To actually get there, or with supplies

Nothing on my part, I dont even have a precautions list, if it happens , it happens.

Hmm NATO do have AWACS (and probably other radar systems) in range of those Russian aircraft in Belarus... that would be rather risky feeding the data to any Ukrainian surface to air capabilities if they were in range though.

Not to mention there is commercial/civil traffic in the background which a missile might hit by accident.

Hollywood tells me you can just hide from the initial blast inside a fridge.

but beware YOU CAN NOT OPEN IT FROM THE INSIDE, unless that's just kids because they are weak

(I know hollywood is a lie, just wanted to make sure no one dies testing if their fridge has room)

I've charged the batteries for my torch. I already own a radio, several hats, an umbrella and I have enough food for about a month. I think I will have had enough after that, but we shall see.

It's more about being able to make your life as comfortable as possible if you don't get killed right away.
Bunch of responses of it would be pointless, but I am not so sure. We could still have some basics in place.

I mean I assume there will be many places that will be outside of the blast zones and will survive that, but then be stuck inside for long periods of time due to the fallout.

It has been going through my mind. I don't think we are there yet but if things ratchet up another notch I think it would be highly irresponsible IMO if the governments of NATO countries don't start rolling out significant civil defence programs albeit it will give some people some serious anxiety.
Yeah.
